Edit: After playing around a little bit with it, it’s not as fragile as I originally thought. Still not sure what the point is. It’s only useful if you’re trying to do Big Boot poses. And the addition of new potential points of failure is something the fake engineer in me doesn’t like, but I was a bit too judgmental in my initial assessment. I’m actually loving this figure even though I’m not in love with the new hip joints.
I just received the new Target Exclusive Ultimate Bret Hart and these new hip joints feel like they will shatter if I look at them too long. I’m just trying to move his legs up to get a feel for it and I just get the feeling of absolute dread that I’m gonna snap the leg off this $30 exclusive figure. I’m not an oaf. I’m very gentle with these things and I’ve never felt so paranoid about handling a figure.
I’m worried to even play with the darn thing. I think these new hips are going to put me off buying Ultimates altogether. They’re worse than the awful hips all the Undertaker and Kane elites get that have a habit of fusing together.

Maybe you have a busted one?
I have 2 and converted one into an ultimate Owen Hart. Swapped the legs at the thighs and had no issues even after heating up the hips. Functions like normal.

I second this. I saw the original post and just checked mine. Everything feels fine with mine. Side note: curious to see how your Owen turned out!

Maybe I’m being overly cautious because I’ve never had a figure with drop down hips before. They just don’t feel as tight as the other joints and when I move his leg, the hips drop down out of nowhere and it freaks me out.

I’m not a fan of the drop down hips. You either get a really good one, or one that’s going to break. I’m super careful removing Ultimates from their boxes now.

They seem fine to me on these ultimates, but on my Hasbro power rangers, that's another story.

Not liking how you have Bret posed with the hips dropped down. It looks odd.
Anyway back to the subject at hand. While I have not had any issues with the drop down hips on any of my figures with them (DCD/DCC,GI Joe, Mafex and now Mattel) I do hate them because it makes the figure fragile there now. Going from one solid large stem to multiple small stem pieces.

Brets boots make Owen taller than Bret so I stood Bret like that to counter it for now 😊 Oh and quit looking at his crotch you weirdo! Lol

Thank you, it's Ric flair legs, everything else is Bret, and aew head Dremeled. I do not have anvil nor pilman, I have the most recent bulldog, I'll snap a pic when I get off work.

Yeah, I’ve been fiddling around with it for a few days now and it’s fine. I still don’t think it’s necessary and I’m hesitant about other figures, but this Bret I have is fine.

My Ultimate AJ was crap, I was hesitant to get Bret, now that I've received it the hips seem to be very smooth and easy to articulate.

Haven't found a good pair, cause the black ones that I was gonna use are the same one that bret has just different paint, unless I go for the stone cold/Goldberg boots which I feel are too small but I'll see eventually.

There’s no other size between the Bret boots and the Stone Cold boots. Those are the two shortest lace boots.
