Considering the significant health issues he had been battling for many years now, he loved longer than I think most though he would.
An absolute pioneer who definitely doesn't get the recognition he deserves for what he brought to the industry. A true showman.

If I'm being honest, this is probably one of the least surprising losses in a long time. Considering all the health problems he's had over the years, it's amazing he was able to make it to 79. Kinda sad the love/hate relationship he had with the WWE. I remember at one point it was a joke, that if a news article said 'WWE Hall of Famer complains about . . ." you pretty much knew it was Graham. The man, though, made his mark on the business, with the countless people he influenced. I mean when it's clear that one of the biggest stars in wrestling took pieces from your character for themselves, then you were a big deal.

Sad news. He was a true pioneer in the business. His reign at the top of the WWWF was way too short, he should have switched babyface and went on a long run as Champion. I remember Billy Graham as the manager of Don Muraco, that was my introduction to him. In the 90's, I kept hearing how he was so innovative, one of the best talkers, and how he influenced so many wrestlers. In the 2000s, when the WWE put out the DVD on him, that was my first time ever seeing any of his matches and promos (not related to him being The Rock's managers - the first Rock, not Dwyane...), I was instantly hooked. Since then, I've gone back and watched as many matches as I could find. Though, he's not the greatest wrestler in the world, he was definitely entertaining in the ring. And for a big guy, he really bumped his ass off for the babyfaces he went against. I wonder what a match would have looked like of him against a prime Hulk Hogan in 1983 or 1984. Had he been given the long reign as champion; he could have been the guy to pass the torch to Hogan. I could see him as the babyface Champion in 1982 and 1983, befriending the returning Hogan, only to grow jealous of the fans love for Hogan and the 24" pythons. After a short while, Superstar turns on Hogan and attacks him which sets up a big showdown at MSG where Hogan beats Superstar for the WWF title. It would have been interesting to see. RIP Superstar.

I love his feud with Dusty, and him defeating Bruno was an unintentional passing of the torch in terms of what defined a wrestler unknowingly at the time. weβd see it revisited with Hulk Hogan.
one of the best physiques in wrestling. ahead of his time in many ways, and a tragic character. rip
