Ultimate Warrior vs. The Macho King Randy Savage: WrestleMania VII - Retirement Match did savage also lose his king title in the match or he still king after the match?

They dropped the Macho King monicker after the event, and he went back to Macho Man. Later in the year, they had the first King of the Ring tournament since Savage won the crown from Duggan in 1989.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but Macho King and everything before it > everything Macho did after that night. I much prefer my Randy Savage as a heel. And outside the feud with Dallas, I don’t care for any of his WCW stuff either. He was just so much better as the super cool villain to me.

I remember watching the SNME soon after WM7 and its strange because Savage is still heeling it up in the interviews with Sarge etc...taped before WM7 maybe?
I also much prefer Savage as a heel. 1989 was THE year for Savage IMHO. He was brilliant.

IIRC this was taped a few weeks from when it actually aired so def post Mania I always saw it as they couldnt have a 3 man face announce team so they kept Mach heel in the role for the time being while they slowly turned em for the wedding stuff in the Summer

I was born in 1987 so won't pretend like I was watching back then, but just having consumed so much of that era growing up a WWF fan, he was the glue. Of course, the company revolved around Hogan and you had The Ultimate Warrior on the rise with a ton of other household names from the 80s around, but Savage was like the lynchpin of that era for me. He was such a great heel.

I loved The Macho King He was the kind of heel I loved to hate. Him and Warrior were so good together. Still to this day, that is my favourite match of all time. Even though Warrior was my guy I was all in on the reinstate Macho Man thing they did.

To me Macho Man/Macho King was the second greatest heel of all time just behind Roddy Piper. But MKSavage will 100% agree with me when I say once he started wearing the neon outfits and cowboy hats he became to over the top and cartoonish.

Forget Piper and Savage with a statement like that MKSavage will have you listed as the biggest heel of all time 😂

He was definitely better in the 80s and early 90s. By late 1992, injuries and the divorce really took a toll on him. Then he was pretty much sidelined for most of 1993 and 1994. I did enjoy much of his run in WCW, though. I really liked his feud with Flair and Luger in 1995/96. And of course, his stuff with DDP in 1997 was excellent.

And yes, him and Warrior were perfect for one another. Their match at WM7 is one of my all-time favorite matches in wrestling history, and I have that as the #2 best match in Mania history - just behind Austin/Bret from WM13.

I always liked the Savage/ Sherri run because it was like, now that he didn’t have Elizabeth he was totally out of control. These were 2 people that were BOTH out of their minds, nobody to reel Macho back in haha. But then WM7 went and created one of the greatest moments in wrestling when Liz came back to humanize Macho once more. Love love love it
