Would any of you guys have wanted this to happen?
Take out the injury, losing his smile etc I think HBK would have been a great opponent for Taker at WM13 with the WWF Title on the line... that means we would have eventually gotten em in 3 different WM matches altogether.
I know the original plan was a HBK/Bret rematch from WM12 but I would have kept it as Bret/Austin, HBK/Taker & Sid in a squash match tbh.

It likely would have meant a heel turn for either guy & HBK didnt push Vince to turn heel until August 97. JR has said Vince was very resistant to turning him.

Good point but we could have got a face vs face match with a screw job ending... Sid or Bret could have cost HBK the match & Takers streak will live on. |

Yup but apparently at this point Vince was dead set against a face vs face match to headline WM & JR & Prichard both think Hart would have been turned if the ME of WM had remained HBK vs Hart. You can see the seeds of that bring plotted of course as far back as IYH in December. |

Yup but apparently at this point Vince was dead set against a face vs face match to headline WM & JR & Prichard both think Hart would have been turned if the ME of WM had remained HBK vs Hart. If we still got Bret/HBK again then we’d probably see Austin vs Taker/Sid. |

Vince seemed to be against babyface matches. But, having a babyface match at WM13 could have added to their feud later on in the year when HBK turned heel.

To add to the thought that Vince didn't like Babyface vs Babyface matches in the main event, do you think there's an actual reason why at this point in 1997?
If you look at Hogan/Warrior and Bret/Shawn the year before, I don't get the notion that it wouldn't work in theory. Is that just Vince, because surely not everyone would agree that it couldn't again when it had for Shawn and Warrior.

I think this sounds like a great idea, I know the babyface vs babyface thing would have been a hard sell at the time, but they could have pulled it off, especially if they had Bret interfering at during the match.
The stumbling block may have been Bret kicking up a stink about not taking the title off Shawn at WrestleMania, but as he respected Taker so much, perhaps he would have been cool with this.
