So both Austin/Taker missed WM2000/WM16 due to injuries & even Billy Gunn missed it too... how do you think the card would have been like if they all wrestled? & how would you have liked the card to turn out to be?
I think we would have got Austin vs Big Show or Austin vs Rock since they were the rumoured plans... maybe Taker vs Kane again or even Taker vs Big Show was a likely match as well.
I would have went with Austin/Taker with Taker winning in a screw job finish plus keep the original main event exactly the same.

The match I would have liked is Kane/X-Pac in some kind of gimmick match if they'd let it play out more and not had a few PPV matches already, Taker/Show and Austin/Rock/Triple H main event. No disrespect to Mick Foley, but even he has said he doesn't know why he was on the card let alone the main event so I'd sit him out.
Those 3 as the big matches along with the Ladder match and the Angle/Benoit/Jericho match and that sounds like a solid Mania to me.

The Outlaws & X Pac could've faced Kane & Too Cool.
The Main event would be a triple threat between Austin, Rock & HHH.

As much as I love Austin I would NOt wanna see him face The Big Show at Mania, and I never liked his matches with Taker

But, listening to Foleys podcast as of late he discusses he was going to retire the previous November but stayed because Austin was out. So had Austin not gotten surgery, we would have been robbed of two star making performances for Triple H. So maybe Foley as the ref for the triple threat match.

That is very interesting to think about, would Triple H have had the 2000 he had, if he had not had those two matches with Foley? If that was the case would Triple H in March of 2000 be classed as being at the level of Rock and Austin? Maybe they would have not done a triple threat (which I would loved to have seen) and instead done a rematch of Rock vs Austin, but that could have robbed us of their classic at 17. The ripple effect of a healthy Austin is pretty damn massive. As far as Taker goes, I could see him having one hell of a brutal match with The Big Show! |

I was happy to not see them wrestle. It was nice to have a break from them during 1999 & 2000. Especially given how poor Taker was when he returned. Austin was running so hard he deserved a break

Yeah it would have been Rock vs HHH vs Stone Cold for sure.
Big Show was reportedly pipped for a match against Austin but it would have been a wet fart for the fans. Big Show was popular with the fans in 1999 but as soon as he won the WWF Championship, fans were bored with him. The company tried to have him wrestle like Goldberg but he had nowhere near the longevity or intensity Goldberg had, despite Show being pretty intense when needed. He just missed something.
He was slotted into the main event at WM 2000 apparently because he was promised it upon signing his contract the year before. He was also promised a run with the title within the first year as well, hence why he randomly won it. It was a box ticking exercise to fulfil their obligations to him.
Foley was involved in the main event because he was retiring and hadn't been given his dream of main eventing Wrestlemania. So it was more of a thank you to Foley.
And finally they wanted to pump the numbers for Backlash and hold off on the white hot HHH vs Rock match for the title, so WM fatal four way was a way to extend that and milk it further. Worked well tbh.

There were no plans for Austin at WM2000 because they knew he was f**ked the day after Fully Loaded 99 and was on borrowed time. By Summerslam he was worse and then they knew....short time until the knife. knowing all that its hard for me to predict anything for Austin.
UT is different....if he stays do we still get ABA? I feel like he needed a break to return as that character? as a babyface he may have been positioned as a challenger to HHH or faced Big Show at WM stemming from a RR incident.
hard to know how Austin remaining would have affected HHHs run at the top....providing it stays the same we may not have seen Foley turn into jack for that feud.
Austin being gone pushed a lot of guys around the board....

Does Big Show get involved at SS or WM to make it a 4 way? Maybe at Survivor Series he is added and wins the title and the 3 way happens at mania

I also don’t see HHH walking out champion if Austin is in that match .
Taker - Show was probably the likely option and would’ve been an absolute snooze fest.

I know he was a huge star in WCW but what if he flopped after his debut in WWE? Rating wise WWE was on fire in 1999 so it was a huge risk agreeing to those terms with him. Had Austin not got injured I have no idea how they could've fulfilled the demands in his contract. |

Being booked in brawling/no dq/falls count anywhere matches so he didn't have to bump around in the ring They stretched this period out as long as they could because they needed to build up replacements and storylines, plus the Undertaker took off around September, but Steve's issues were getting worse and he couldn't perform at any capacity. So the match at Survivor Series that was booked prior to Austin being run over would not have been the match we got because they'd have booked completely differently. |
