More retro lines need Barry. Can't believe none have signed him up yet. Barry Windham before random-ass podcast presenter? Heresy!

Just a heads up, Kanik is on the Fully Poseable Podcast this week to discuss the line. He did a previous appearance that was a GREAT episode, and actually gave a pretty good number of behind the scenes stories. I just watched this interview on YouTube, definitely worth checking out. Some of the more interesting points to me were Honky Tonk Man reportedly wanting a Big Rubber Guy of him (despite WWE legends deal), and Kanik seeming to be genuinely interested when one of the hosts pitched a Mania 5 Macho Man with cloth-goods cape, like the McFarlane statue. I would love that too!

According to Wrestling Figure News, it ends 8/25.

Hey Matt, Please bring us the Big Rubber Guys Macho King. He should have had an Ljn in this style. This would be my #1 pick!

Since he became Macho King in ‘89 (right?), I can accept that as “LJN era” and go for this fig. But, for me personally, I’d want them to stick with one-and-done for each wrestler, getting a variety of different talent before repeating people multiple times.

NWA / early WCW guys + managers and valets seem to be the untapped resource ZST is doing rock n roll but guys like the midnight express, fabulous ones etc I don’t believe are signed to anyone?

I’d always thought of NWA/WCW as being boring and for adults when I was a kid, with WWF feeling much more for me back then. I appreciate NWA/WCW more now, but it doesn’t have the same nostalgia connection for me.

Yeah, I think the NWA/JCP guys would be great for this line as well, some really big names they could do (if they could get them signed): Ric Flair Arn Anderson Tully Blanchard Barry Windham JJ Dillon Baby Doll Road Warrior Hawk Road Warrior Animal Paul Ellering Sting Lex Luger Magnum TA Dusty Rhodes Ivan Koloff Nikita Koloff Krusher Kruschev Robert Gibson Ricky Morton Jim Cornette Bobby Eaton Stan Lane Big Bubba Rogers Ricky Steamboat Terry Funk the Great Muta Wahoo McDaniel Harley Race Kevin Sullivan Abdullah the Butcher Dick Slater Roddy Piper Greg Valentine Ron Garvin Jimmy Garvin Michael PS Hayes Terry Gordy Steve Williams Brad Armstrong Larry Zbysko Rick Steiner Ron Simmons Fatu Samu Paul E. Dangerously

That's cool. Series 4? Isn't Andre in the series after the Marty/Sarge series? Wouldn't that be series 3?

Is Series 4 going to have 3 figures like Series 3 did?

They are knocking it out of the park with heavy hitters to get attention for this line! My only concern, by burning though Demolition, Flair, Slaughter, Andre and Savage so quickly, how will the buzz be maintained? I personally don’t need main eventers only, but unless we start getting repeat wrestlers in the near future, I’m not sure who could follow Andre and Savage. If the next set is King Haku and Duggan, for example, I’d still be in, but would that disappoint more casual fans who jumped in for the bigger names? I suppose it’s all about getting eyes (and wallets) in on this line, then hoping there’s enough satisfaction to then justify going deeper. I’m definitely excited to see where this line goes!

That’s a good question but you can look at it another way: they can try making figures of the biggest names available to ensure that they get made/sell well and then accept that numbers will begin to dwindle as names dry up OR they can use the big names up front to try and get people hooked on their product/encourage them to continue collecting. It isn’t an aggressive marketing strategy but it is fun. The entire line has been a pretty good love letter to the original series (minus the packaging but I’ve made my feelings known on that one). My guess is that they will continue to make these BRGs until there is no longer a high enough demand to sustain it. That will probably take a few years. During that time, who knows who will become available. Mix In the occasional repaint or making of guys who have already had a figure…we could a hell of a lineup when it is all said and done. Think about everyone we have seen from Zombie, PowerTown, Chella/Epic, etc. and imagine how many of them could be made into this form. They might not be the heaviest hitters but they have a few more home runs left.

And agreed on the packaging, but I’ve made peace with that.

I just finished the Wrestling Figure News podcast with the recent Kanik interview. He said that 2 per wave would be the norm, and that Series 4 (Andre/Savage) would be just 2 figs. He noted series 3 was upped to 3 to fit in Flair after they paid a lot to get him signed, and they may add him to other upcoming waves (wrestling gear, robe, etc) as a 3rd fig for those waves.

Yeah I was all wwe as a kid and wcw felt like a knock off brand Even down to having to pay for sky / cable for wwf whereas wcw was on free tv gave wwf a more ‘premium’ feel
