Without knowing any of the numbers, it is hard for me to speculate on this so don’t take this as argumentative as that is not the intention. I’m just talking through why it likely is not worth it. Feel free to chime in if I’ve missed something/get something wrong. Given that there are no moving parts/they only connect at the waist, it seems like a majority of your QC issues will only ever be strictly cosmetic which is fair. If the GW of a package was <20 KGS it seems like it might be worth considering…especially with the ability to market these as “Have them before anyone else” or “First factory run exclusives.” That would created added work but it beats paying another person for QC/could prevent inferior items from being released if there were a major problem. As stated earlier, major problems are unlikely as there aren’t really any parts and other samples would have been approved by this stage. The rates I saw this morning were at $200-$300 for cartons for what I believe the carton size/weight range is. But at 2-4 figures per series, the cost of sealed cases is obviously multiplied. Doing a mixed case introduces new potential problems and new variables…and it would be hard to trust that any factory is giving their customer an accurate representation of the average product…as in they would likely cherry pick higher quality items to try and avoid any complaints from the customer. Unfortunately, it's not that simple. The process you're suggesting, where we have a true pre-production sample by the cartons, requires powering on multiple machines, running them, and allocating man power, cost of goods, and shipping costs. Considering the minimum amount we produce initially, the cost and time involved in this process wouldn't be worth it. That's why we receive a hand painted sample. If we were producing over 3,000 units per SKU, then it would definitely be feasible. Regarding the cosmetic issues with the bubbles, I was informed that this would be resolved with our new method of shipping products. I've developed a unique way to transport the items that minimizes damage during transit. This has proven to be successful, as out of the shipment I received for series 3, less than 20 units were damaged. This is an incredible success rate. However, there were still blemishes on the bubbles, which indicates that the issue is occurring during production rather than shipping. I have informed the factory about this and they are currently working on finding a solution for future releases. Additionally, I am working on extending the bubble and creating a flat bottom so that the figure can stand while in the packaging. Another ongoing issue is the factory making changes to our molds without proper communication (an ongoing issue across the industry). Unless I am physically present in the factory, this problem is likely to continue. However, our goal is to minimize the occurrence of such changes. I am in the process of creating a new QA checklist that will be followed by the factory, myself, and TTD to ensure that fewer of these issues happen in the future. Thank you for the detailed response. It was my assumption that you guys weren’t pumping out thousands upon thousands of these (yet) so it would stand to reason this option isn’t feasible. I’m trying to picture what it is that PowerTown did or Epic are going to have to do when fully produced runs need to be scrapped. In a previous life, I worked for a major company where this had to be done (sometimes it was over 100k shelf-ready units). That company could handle big hits like that and had to eat some hefty costs but obviously so many things are different in the toy world and with being an up and coming force such as yourselves. So again, I appreciate these answers as someone who enjoys learning about this industry. |

Thank you to Major Bendies for the responses. We all love this growing line and are passionate as consumers. Is it possible they are pressed too tightly to each other in the shipping boxes. The backs show markings and wear in the shape of the bubble which would suggest it could be part of the issue. Perhaps they could use something non abrasive between each unit to prevent direct pressing? Understand some stuff could be happening before they are shipped also. Wonderful news about the flat bottom in the works. Wish they would be available for purchase to upgrade old ones or for autograph signings!

I still remember going to house shows as a kid and seeing him as Leaping Lanny Poffo, reading his poems and throwing frisbees in the crowd… before getting beat easily in a lower card match by someone like Barbarian or Brooklyn Brawler. Good times! |

Probably could just do the wrestling gear with the cap molded onto the figure, or they could treat him like a manager and just do the cap and gown molded - like how the other managers in the LJN line had their suits molded on. |

Lanny did have a Jakks Classic with clothing.
Lanny was a friend of a friend of mine, John Crowther. He does the comic book series on wrestlers, including Lanny and also has done the Bushwhackers biography. It is amazing to see him go from just talking about his dream of writing comics on wrestlers to having befriended so many and still going strong. He also takes part in helping edit autobiographies. Given the recent announcement with the Major Bendies…I would be quite surprised if we didn’t see Dusty in BRG form. That would be a nice feather in the cap for the company.
It also makes me wonder what possibilities exist in Retro form from other companies.

It also makes me wonder what possibilities exist in Retro form from other companies. I always think of Dusty as a 90’s guy in WWF, probably because he had a Hasbro and not an LJN. But like The Rockers, he actually debuted in the late 80’s. So, ok, bring on the polka dots! |
