If George Gray gets one of these new nostalgia contracts, do we think Akeem is off the table based on recent issues with Strongbow?

I’d imagine it’s a possibility they wouldn’t make him. I think the majority wants One Man Gang though so I’m sure it would work out. Seeing the only situation I see him getting an Ultimate figure is in the Coliseum Collection, OMG would be the only figure of how I would buy anyways:

I’ve got Akeem, but definitely wouldn’t mind a TrueFX upgrade.
I personally don’t see them doing it, but I didn’t expect them to re-release Kamala either.

If he is signed, I think Mattel would focus on OMG (Coliseum Collection, elites in Legends, retros, superstar lines).
I don't think they would get much pushback/controversy if they did decide to release Akeem, but I feel like people that are pissed off about Strongbow and other wrestlers not getting released would make a big deal out of it and probably then get it cancelled.
His gimmick/mannerisms probably have more cons than pros for Mattel to release it.

In September 1988, One Man Gang's manager, Slick, announced that Gang was actually African and planned to re-embrace his roots. An episode of WWF Superstars, which aired on September 24, 1988, featured a vignette with Gene Okerlund on-location in an American ghetto that was dubbed "The Deepest Darkest Parts Of Africa," where dancers dressed as tribal Africans danced and chanted around a fire; Slick then announced that Gang would be known by his new name, "Akeem, the African Dream", though Okerlund immediately called him out as the One Man Gang. This vignette received some criticism, as the Caucasian "Akeem" delivered a promo in which he spoke with an extremely stereotypical "jive" black accent and danced in the style of Dusty Rhodes while an African ritual took place in the background.
And for reference, this is a white South African ...

It’s crazy how sensitive people can be when it comes to wrestling characters.
I walk down the toy aisle and Hasbro and McFarlane and others keeps stock on shelves of people who portray evil characters and commit mass murder, among other heinous acts.
But no.. let’s cancel all the wrestling characters because seven people get their feelings hurt.

People throw around the term “cancel culture” way too much for situations that don’t even apply. They might not make the jive talking Akeem from the “deepest darkest part of Africa” again if they get George Gray under contract again. It’s not like anyone is trying to ruin his career or erase him from history. In no way is the guy “oh my god cancelled!” Especially if they end up making One Man Gang figures. You can still watch Akeem matches on the Peacock/Network. You can still meet George Grey at conventions. They might just decide to not make a toy of one of his wrestling characters again. The whole “cancel culture” thing is just a buzz term for people to get “too sensitive” about people being “too sensitive” anyways. No one outside truly awful people have lost their careers due to their actions. Strongbow wasn’t even “cancelled” as far as the person or his work. They just decided to not make a toy of him. The world kept spinning.
