People throw around the term “cancel culture” way too much for situations that don’t even apply. They might not make the jive talking Akeem from the “deepest darkest part of Africa” again if they get George Gray under contract again. It’s not like anyone is trying to ruin his career or erase him from history. In no way is the guy “oh my god cancelled!” Especially if they end up making One Man Gang figures. You can still watch Akeem matches on the Peacock/Network. You can still meet George Grey at conventions. They might just decide to not make a toy of one of his wrestling characters again. The whole “cancel culture” thing is just a buzz term for people to get “too sensitive” about people being “too sensitive” anyways. No one outside truly awful people have lost their careers due to their actions. Strongbow wasn’t even “cancelled” as far as the person or his work. They just decided to not make a toy of him. The world kept spinning. It fits the term. How else would you describe it ? Also who gives a rats ass lol Youre reading into it too much dude. .chill out |

It’s crazy how sensitive people can be when it comes to wrestling characters. I walk down the toy aisle and Hasbro and McFarlane and others keeps stock on shelves of people who portray evil characters and commit mass murder, among other heinous acts. But no.. let’s cancel all the wrestling characters because seven people get their feelings hurt. Mcfarlane thankfully doesn't have to answer to shareholders. He does have to answer to WB tho and adhere to their weird no gun mandate. (But hey, finger guns!) Meanwhile, Hasbro is making the guns on their GI Joe figures more realistic compared to when the classified series launched. But you cross the line when you have an Italian playing a Native American. I get canceling it because the dude is from New Jersey and New Jersey is just gross. It'd be nice if the people who got their feelings hurt over Strongbow just simply didn't buy that particular figure. But nope. Let's go cry about it online and get it cancelled altogether and have these multi billion dollar corporations bend to our will. I'd love to know if Mattel really thinks the select few that got their panties in an uproar over that figure really make that much of a difference to their overall profits/bonuses. They literally said, let's make these select few happy by pissing everyone else off by canceling this toy. |

I think Akeem's a special situation because the whole point of the gimmick is that he's obviously not African and is a delusional jerk for acting like he is.
It's like how Its Always Sunny and Tropic Thunder have gotten away with blackface stuff because the message is "this is wrong and these characters are idiots".
Whereas with Strongbow, the guy pretended to be a different race to make money and get cheers. The whole thing was about exploiting another culture to get pops.
Will a billion dollar company be able to recognize that nuance though? I doubt it.

I’ve got Akeem, but definitely wouldn’t mind a TrueFX upgrade. I personally don’t see them doing it, but I didn’t expect them to re-release Kamala either. If the guy can’t come in for a scan, they could always scan Conrad Thompson. |

There’s really no way of knowing until it happens. I doubt we’d get a heads up. If George Gray is available, I would think One Man Gang takes precedence over all. Will we ever get a rerelease of the legend series Akeem? Figure was flawless to me & I miss out on it the first time around. It could be an option if he ever becomes available to us again. I’d want to get out One Man Gang first though. |
