Had a trivia night and this question was asked and no one had an answer - I know I can look through ppv results but that honestly will take forever
But how many times did the WWE champion face the IC Champion? On tv or at least on Ppv
It didn’t need to be title for title just if they faced each other
Hogan/ warrior wm6
Hardy / Orton rumble 2008
For example
However let’s not include the whc so kane/hhh in 2002 is out
And to get a discussion going - did you guys like it when the champions faced each other? I always viewed the Ic champion should be considered a number 1 contender, but I wouldn’t want it done all the time

Bret vs. Shawn - Survivor Series 1992
Bret vs. Diesel - KOTR94
These were the only other ones I remember in the WWF from 1985 through 1998, at least on PPVs and SNME's. Not sure about Raws and Smackdowns. And anything after 1998.

Cant think of too many other examples than listed.....When it was done sparingly? It could be special but your 100% right it shouldn't be too often.

Piper as IC Champ in the 1992 Rumble always sticks out to me because he had the chance to win both titles but he wasn’t technically in the ring with the champion.
I feel like it must have happened a few times on RAW, especially in the attitude era. Jarrett as IC Champ vs HBK as WWF Champ never happened?

But, I remember Diesel and Jarrett wrestling each other in 1995, that could have happened when both were champions. |

I enjoyed when they would do the two singles champs against the tag champs more. Idk why but it's nice to see if the two singles stars can coexist and work against two other champion level competitors whose bread and butter is tag team wrestling. More points if the tag team wins bc in theory, a cohesive team that works well as a unit should easily beat two strangers who have no clue what each other's strengths and weaknesses are.

Bret vs Goldust happened after RR 96 but it was Raw....felt big though
