Love Flexy Lexy. The all-American gimmick sadly wasnβt going to work and he should have remained a heel as the narcissist. I still believe he would have been the top heel in the company at some point had he kept that gimmick.

I think seeing the whole Lex Express scenario play out was a good call just because of how much they invested in it. However, once it was clear that they were going with Bret at WrestleMania X they should have turned Lex heel.

He should have been the one to turn heel at Summer Slam 1994, then he could have been the one to beat Bret for the title at Survivor Series 1994. After that, he could have dropped the belt to Diesel at WM11.

Heel Luger vs Bret in 94 for the belt wouldve been ideal considering the feud never got off the ground post Mania IX

Heel Luger vs Bret in 94 for the belt wouldve been ideal considering the feud never got off the ground post Mania IX Yeah, that was such an awkward angle. They laid the foundation for it during the WrestleMania IX press conference when Lex knocked out Bret. You have to think at this point they knew Yoko was getting the belt so this was setting up a high-profile feud for Bret to fall back on afterwards. Nothing materialized from it though. Bret was not featured much on TV afterwards until King of the Ring started up.

They made up for it with the Lawler feud though Back to the potential feud in 94, Them both winning the Rumble that year couldve been a big factor in the feud. Bret wins the belt in the end and Lex once again chokes. Wouldve told a great story

Bret would have just beat Owen which capped their rivalry for the time being and Lex laying a beat down on Bret afterwards would've been a perfect setup for the next main event title feud. As much as I loved the crazy Bob Backlund character, I'll trade it for the legitimate Bret/Lex feud we never got to see in the WWF.

They also immediately moved Mr. Perfect into the feud with HBK at Mania 9 as well, which seemed weird to me with all the build up to Lex's debut being geared towards Heenan getting revenge on Perfect.

As a kid I was all about Lex but I couldnβt stand that damn song. When he didnβt win at summerslam I was really annoyed I had to listen to that damn song over & over but he still lost. This was a failure on WWFβs part Luger was over they just had him fail way too much. In 84 Hogan didnβt keep failing he beat Iron Sheik 1st time out he caught fire and they poured gasoline on it. People donβt usually like losers.

Even though as non-American the whole Lex defends the honour of the USA against the evil foreigner meant nothing to me, I still have a soft spot for this angle as Summerslam 93 was the first VHS I bought in real time (others before then I had just rented) and watched it the tape endlessly.
I am still surprised that Vince didn't put them belt on Lex, particularly as Yoko was hardly drawing much heat, although the addition of Cornette as "spokesman" did help. Overall, I thought the Narcissist gimmick was better and had way more potential than the completely transparent Hogan 2.0 attempt.
