It's always nice having new faces to collect but at this point there aren't many huge names they've never done so it's kind of a double edge sword. Most of the missing talent are deep cuts or secondary talent that would just pad out the mid card collection. Not really a huge life altering situation.

Just means I have more money to shell out to another company. If mattel thinks I'm gonna drop another $25 on a Harley Race or any of these re-released legends cause they have double jointed elbows...jokes on them.

My two thoughts on it are if the roster of talent available is going to be stagnant and we get some re-releases with updated technology, great. I started collecting in 2018 so it's nice to have a crack at some stuff I outright passed on. My other thought is we're going to get Hogan/Macho/Warriors with the amount of looks available as anchors and that opens up spots for more obscure talent if it ends up under contract. A lot of the issue is the talent being under contract which feels like yelling at clouds for the most part right now.
One thing I would be really bothered about is if FTITL legends ended up at Walmart instead of Target. At least when these figures actually get into the line, they are plentiful at retail.

Not really. We're at the point where most of the big names have been made.

This feels like a post from like 10 years ago. By any reasonable metric, WWE is the most successful it's been in years. They're pulling in merch numbers that are reportedly Attitude Era-level. Sami in particular has been a driver of that, and it's insane to question whether or not he and Owens are going to be remembered after everything they've done in the past year alone. I don't disagree..... but as you said, it's only been in the last year or two that WWE's really been bringing back the "memorable" and "legendary" type personalities and stories.... I also think they're heading there with Roman Reigns, Rhea Ripley, Damien Priest, Dominick, Charlotte, LA Knight, Usos, and a few others.... But there is a long gap of time where WWE didn't really produce the "Legends" and "Memories" that we all love.... thus creating a "Legends Gap". Most of the current "Legends" are from the Golden Era & Attitude Era & WCW. I think a lot of this in regards to the Mattel line is Bill doesn't like the Ruthless Agression era. There are plenty of guys we could have gotten since Mattel has had the license that we just didn't. We never got a mid 2000's Christian. 2006 Edge. A ton of different versions of Jericho. We are just now starting to get RA versions of HBK. No Vince. No Evolution Flair. It's been 13 years since we got a Kane that resembles his unmasked look from the mid 2000's. We haven't gotten a 2003 Nash. Shelton Benjamin has been back in WWE for 7 years now and we just now got a flashback. We got one Kurt Angle from 2003. People have been asking for a Backlash Orton and Foley for over a decade at this point and we still haven't gotten it. The one Jeff Hardy we got from 2006 is missing his tattoos. Despite having both members of MNM under contract, we never got either one. We never got a 2004-5 version of the Undertaker after he returned as the Deadman. We got one Big Show flashback from the period, but there are plenty of looks we could have gotten for him. Coach was under contract for awhile. We never got a Paul Heyman from his GM days. There are tons of guys from that time period we could have gotten that Mattel has had the rights to. I think it's save to say that Bill doesn't like this era of wrestling.

Yes it does.
Faarooq Asad should never and I mean NEVER been made and put into the main elite line. There are thousands literallly rotting in England now - I’ve no idea what Smyths were thinking but they’re gonna have to sell them for a quid to get shot of them. But Mattel putting that figure in that slot and chucking much more popular acts/looks into niche niche US store exclusive slots is insane. Next to that, they could have had someone new in Ron Simmons space - anything would sell better.

You make a good point..... but also - most of the names you've listed wouldn't be "FTITL". They're all holdovers from the Attitude Era (Jericho, Christian, Foley, Jeff Hardy, Kurt Angle, Big Show, etc).... and most have already been made by Mattel (albeit from other eras).... True Ruthless Aggression "FTITL" figures could include guys like Rico, Maria Kannellis, Carlito, Christy Hemme, Tajiri, Test, Dawn Marie, Gail Kim, Eugene, Charlie Haas, Jackie Gayda, Chavo Guerrero, Victoria, Mr. Kennedy...... I don't know if these guys are regarded as highly as the stars of the other eras..... that's on WWE. I just don't think the demand is there for all of these names.... this is the "Legends Gap Era" that I'm talking about. Fans have forgotten a lot of these names. We sure could use a good Vince McMahon and a suited John Bradshaw Layfield though! And GOOD POINT.... why did we never get an Evolution Era Ric Flair? ?

I think the elite output has been pretty solid. I do have a complaint of the lack of new characters in the Ultimate Line.

I do miss the "wild west" days of Jakks, where you could get out-of-the-blue guys like Tank Abbott and The Midnight Express.
There is somewhat of a "safe bet" feel to Mattel's releases. I like that we get various versions of Ron Simmons and Fatu's cavalcade of gimmicks from over the years. But I do miss the real deep cuts.

I've no idea who decides what to stock at Smyths - but I HATE the way they don't order full sets of figures: eg. ordering the Royal Rumble BAFs except for Brie; ordering the Legends 19 figures except for Brother Love; ordering the Greatest Hits 2 figures except for Harley. It's SO frustrating...

I tune in whenever there are reveals because I’m always hoping we’re going to get Koko B. Ware or Butch Reed or Hercules but it never happens. This saves me a lot of money as I only bought King Harley Race and 4 Ken Shamrock figures.

Yeah, but at this point, a lot of the FTITL guys are going to be deep cuts, and maybe Mattel figures they won't sell as well.

Of course it does, having 15 hogans, takers and warriors each in a year when you could sprinkle in some of the 150+ guys they haven’t made figs of that jakks did… I know it’s not on Mattel but there has to be tons of money to be made by wwe if they signed old talent ..what’s stopping them from signed them to small deals? I’m sure most of the smaller stars would bite ,(they all goto conventions for signings so you know they would jump on a 2 or 3k deal) Like someone else said these smaller companies are making bank of guys like blue meanie, ahamed, Bundy etc… you can’t tell me it isn’t worth it to wwe to sculpture a deal with these guys to make money There has to be something else that’s blocking deals besides” it not worth it” like most people say about the smaller names.. wwe most not want a huge roster to be signed at once for whatever weird unknown reason ,maybe to penny pinch BUTTT that’s goes out the window when it’s just tiny legend deal that you makes money off with toys ten fold Kevin Nash said on his pod his legends contract isn’t what it used to be, that he used to get paid 50k-60k for wwe2k now he’s lucky if he gets 5k….. so they’re saving more money with cutting legends money…. because you know guys like spike dudley, konnan,Kidman, gangrel, Steve Blackman , al snow aren’t turning down a deal from wwe Mattel knows the reason why wwe won’t sign more guys, wish Mattel would clue us in to what the asinine reason … I take my legends collecting very seriously lol (I really do 😂) I agree and I'm sure there are other reasons in the past that some of these guys weren't sign, and my guess is that a big one was simply Vince McMahon holding grudges against former wrestlers. Some may be due to Vince holding a grudge. Nailz would be one of these guys, I would think. Some may be due to the wrestler themselves having a grudge against WWE or Vince or both. Sable comes to mind here. Some are due to controversy. I love the Dark Side of the Ring series, but I would guess a good portion of these subjects will not ever see a figure from Mattel. Look how even Flair and Hogan disappeared when things popped up in their world. So lesser names like Fabulous Moolah, Dino Bravo, and even someone who they made previously like Jimmy Snuka are not going to be made. Two are obvious - their names are Chris Benoit or Owen Hart. Some may be for other reasons. Like literally, wasn't there a wrestler (Perry Saturn I think?) who was basically homeless and couldn't be found at some point? That said, I would not be confident that Mattel would know a reason why WWE would not sign wrestler X when they could. That reasoning would stay within WWE, and depending on the situation, the reasoning may only stay with a select few people. Maybe it is petty, maybe there is another valid reason, but regardless, we will never know reasonings behind these types of decisions. You also have to consider things from wwe perspective Legends don’t sell tickets to current events, get people watching current tv upping viewer numbers and rights amounts, buying merch at live shows, attending premium live events etc There’s a reason why Cena changed his shirt every 4 months, because there’s more hats, shirts, wrist bands snd yes figures to sell. New / current product is where the big bucks are - how many people bought a Cena shirt v say an iron sheik or even macho man shirt? How many now buy a seth or Roman v a warrior shirt? They’re not going to put too much time and effort into getting s little back when they could put less time and get more out from their current stars. We get a sprinkling every now and then of ftil but the focus will always be on the current product Completely understand the focus on the current roster, but as I mentioned in my previous post, I would think that this new Nostalgia contract could be interesting in this. Like wha was said above, that a lot of these guys that are regularly on the convention circuit would most likely take a relatively small payout - $5K or even $10K would be pennies to WWE to give these guys a 3 year contract to allow Mattel to make several figures of these guys, and that would more than pay for itself. Let's use someone like Hercules. He was in WWE from 85-92. He was also with WCW for a short bit after that, and had brief stints with Crockett, Mid-South, and Florida before hitting the WWE in 85. He could easily be in a Wrestlemania series, a Legends series, but more than likely not a mainline series. Heck, if they were to sign Paul Roma, they could also put the both of them in a SummerSlam lineup. Heck, if they signed Roma they could do a 'wrestlecrap' figure of him as a Horseman, getting two figures out of him. So let's say Hercules was worth a 10K contract, and Roma was worth a 5K contract, getting 5 figures out of those two wrestlers would most likely make it worth it for all involved. Again, this is armchair quarterbacking by me, but logically everyone here would win, I would think. Even if they don't deem it enough to make a shirt of each legend, (which I don't know much about), but I would think would be worth it to have an official shirt of, well almost anyone, even if it is just to sell on WWEshop.com. It wouldn't have to take up space at live events and such, but having it for the online shop wouldn't most likely hurt much, in my opinion.

I agree that I wish we had more legends. There are SO many I want in this line. I try and get 1 attire of the current talent though. 20 years from now they’ll be legends too!!

There's a lot of good points made in this thread for both sides, but just my few (or many) cents.
We all know that WWE has to sign the legends, not Mattel. But I think we do have to give Mattel credit for actually improving in how they've handled their true legacy talent now compared to earlier in the line. I'm not saying it's a certain thing, but I have to believe if the way things are being run now was happening back when the Dudleyz and Hardyz were around, we very well might have gotten those flashbacks we wanted. I'd like to think so anyway. I mean, not everyone would get the Hogan treatment but look how close together Farrooq's flashback figures were recently, and frankly, nobody ever asked for Farrooq Asad (except me. Give me all the wrestlecrap and weirdness I want a whole shelf.) I don't know how long they've had Bischoff on their payroll again but we've already gotten one and another on the way. And some of the current talent they have have gotten/are getting some wild flashbacks as well. Vintage AJ Styles? Never expected that. Maskless Rey? I'd have called you a liar and I still won't believe it until it's in hand. Look how many Machos we did get just in the last few years alone. That would have been our fourth ultimate alone, I think. They're doing a lot with what they have to work with and I think they deserve a lot of credit for that, especially with how quickly legends deals can fluctuate. Are some of the cuts maybe a bit too deep? Yeah, probably. Not sure anyone ever in a million years (again, except me) was asking for a fake diesel, but why not at this point? Glenn's contract is probably never going anywhere, they might as well.
That said, I wish we could get more legends. I know there are reasons for some of them but, I mean, you have Umaga right there. You have the whole dang family right there. Would it really be the end of the world to make Three Minute Warning? Even just Jamal? You're making a Fake Diesel and you don't think that maybe there's a market for Jamal (and Rosey)? Hell, they've gotten how many Hurricanes now, where is my SuperHero In Training? Ones like that just puzzle the crap out of me. I understand why we are never getting the Owens, Benoits, and Moolahs but where is Ivory? Where is Jacqueline? Where is Luna? And for that matter, where are most any of the flashback Divas?
Beyond that, some of those old figures could use some updating. The old Afa and Sika are nice, but I really don't see why we couldn't get updates? Especially now? You just made the Headshrinkers/Samoan Swat Team, give the Wild Samoans another go. Put them in black and red this time like their alternate CS figures. (Please, begging here). And LOD. I don't see how LOD wouldn't be a layup as far as merch deals go you could pump out so much merch and have it sell like hotcakes.
I dunno. This is gonna sound kind of horrible but I sort of miss the era of Collector's Editions. Yes, the distribution was rubbish, and yes, if you wanted most of them, you were looking on secondary. But they seemed like a great way to put out those one-off, FTIL legends that they never bothered with another figure of. Farrooq Asad would have been a perfect Collector's Edition figure. I miss the way that we would have the chance at certain legends at least once that way, even if they were hard to come by. I mean, at least they weren't like AEW and only making 5000 of a FTIL character...
I guess I just have a lot of emotions about this, especially because the legends I want most they never seem to make. I want Divas. I want Attitude Era. I want something besides the 453rd Undertaker and Hogan. I mean, I'm grateful for what we get, sure, but I wish I didn't have to try and customize certain key talent from scratch, just so I can add them to my collection.

I would fight patrons in a toy shop looking at the Transformers section just to make sure I got the Islanders.

Not really in the mood to contribute much in terms of discussion, but briefly yes the sparsity of FTIL Legends does bother me a lot. As primarily a WCW/NWO era fan, there are well over a hundred figures on my Legends wishlist, most of which are FTIL names and would classify as "deep dive". While I appreciate what we do get and know Mattel works hard, the progress building a deeper Legends roster is painfully slow from my point of view. I really hope Mattel and WWE can continue to find new ways (both in terms of talent contracts and product offerings, e.g. manufacture on demand or even 3D-print-at-home) to bring us more obscure Legends in figure form, particularly WCW/NWO era. The recent progress on classic referees finally being on the table for figures is great news and I hope this kind of innovation can continue to expand to cover other more obscure wrestlers, characters, and other on-screen talent. Here's my latest wishlist if anyone wants to take a trip to fantasy land: Al Snow - wwf attitude era, head accessory Alex Wright - wcw das wunderkind era, leather jacket accessory Arn Anderson - wcw retirement era, denim street gear, new older-looking serious headscan The Artist Formerly Known As Prince Iaukea - This SDCC did seem light on FTIL Legends announced, but I feel like FTIL Legends come in ebbs and flows. I believe there was one year where we only got Michael Hayes and Mae Young released as a Legend FTIL for the the whole year.
On the flip side, I kind of like that they went for more outside of the box releases and deeper cuts (just don't do that every year).
If WWE can only sign so many new Legends a year, then I'm all for releasing other gimmicks like the Sultan to freshen things up. Now give me a Vinnie Vegas/Oz and Diamond Studd already!
And start releasing more of the popular looks that they have been holding back like purple flames Bam Bam, WM6/SS89 Brutus, DDP jeans (if that doesn't happen in the MNW line, then I don't know what to say).
When they are meeting about new Legends, push for more Legends that they can get more mileage out of. Someone like Crush (another Demolition, Kona, Evil, Biker/NOD), Bob Holly (New Gen, Attitude, RA), Haku (Islanders, King, Colossal Connection, WCW), Barbarian (POP, Singles run, Headskrinkers, WCW), etc.
It would be nice to get more Golden Era FTIL in the Legends series (like Koko, Genius, Barbarian, Brooklyn Brawler, Hercules, etc.) since RA and WCW/AE have had their own lines.
