You were in the vast minority. The crowd was really loving Austin the whole match tbh Yup...when you look back on that stretch he was the most over guy in 2002 until his departure. HHHs face run wasn't THAT well received after his initial return. Was he over as a face? Yes indeed. Was he Austin, Rock & post WM Hogan over? No f##kin way

No f##kin way I know the majority wanted Austin to win but by 2002 I had grew a little tired of him. I will always be a fan of Austin but a 4th Rumble win would've been repetitive. We had a heel HHH for 3 years so seeing him as the face for a change was cool and different. I know his feud with Jericho could've been much better.

No f##kin way Yeah Austin was the man in 02 and he really should have been in the main event of WM18. HHH was a great face in 02 but he was always a better heel and id say in 02 Austin,Rock,Hogan & HHH were the most over guys in general... throw in Angle too.

I honestly don’t consider it one of the best ever. Outside Hogan vs Rock, it’s a pretty one note show. Would have gone:
Austin/Hogan Outsiders/Brothers Of Destruction Flair/Rock Angle/Triple H RVD/Jericho Edge/Christian Booker T/DDP Trish/Lita Billy and Chuck/Hardys/Dudleys TLC Perfect/Regal

WrestleMania X8 is a one match card and that is totally okay because it is one of the best matches in the history of the show no questions asked. However, the rest of the card is largely forgettable. Undertaker/Flair was pretty fun, but that is the only other match that stands out for me.

Rock/Hogan made it one of the best ever tbh and everything else was decent... nothing was really bad for me but it also wasn't really WM quality stuff. I'd say the crowd was great and I love the fact that WM was in Canada.

I would have gone:
Austin/Hogan for the WWE title Jericho/HHH Angle/Perfect Edge/Booker DDP/RVD Outsiders/Kane & Taker Rock/Flair Would have left the women's match the same

Pity that backstage circumstances made the 2002 nWo revamp absolutely snakebit from day 1.

Pity that backstage circumstances made the 2002 nWo revamp absolutely snakebit from day 1. I think it was doomed to fail regardless. WCW attempted to resuscitate the nWo numerous times in its final years and it proved impossible to once again catch that lightning in a bottle. Even with just the original three members, the WWF spinoff lasted only one month - exactly. They debuted at No Way Out on February 17, 2002 and disbanded when Hall & Nash turned on Hogan after his match at WrestleMania X8 on March 17, 2002. The nonsense with Big Show/Booker T/HBK joining the group didn't matter as everybody already knew the nWo revival tour was dead in the water. It is almost as if Vince and company knew it was going to be a short term experiment, but even going by that logic they still pulled the plug on the whole thing much earlier than anybody expected.

By all accounts Vince envisioned something must different but the reluctance of his top guys killed it stone dead

I think Hall & Nash vs. Kane & Show for the tag team titles would've added to the nWo vs. WWF feel of the night plus kept the nWo away from Austin. Show was joining the nWo soon anyway so this would've been a good time to turn him which gives the nWo credibility.

Kane/Show vs Hall/Nash and then throw Austin/Angle in the main event with HHH/Jericho to make it a Fatal 4 Way... that would have made things much better.
