Mattel lost my interest over the UE Cody. They took our money based off a computer render. A render mosy if us thought was passable. Then a month before the figure ships, we get in hand pics from insufferable influencers on YouTube where not only were the tights way off, but the jacket somehow grew 2 sizes. And then you have people who work for Mattel double down and say the lighting is off. And then tripled down and posted a lame excuse of a collage of Cody from the event where they outed themselves as wrong because every pic in that collage didnt look like the final product. Mattel has got to be the worst company(not counting 3rd party companies, etc) in terms of what we see in protos vs the final product. They never admitted they screwed up. They didn't push the figure back a couple of months to fix the issue(when they had a year to begin with), but they'll sure as hell do a running change on Johnny Sameface and crank out really nice figures of Japanese women with little to no prob. And now they want our money again for a made to order set of LWO. Yeah, no thanks. How do you expect to get better if Mattel as a company, esp in the WWE division, ignores criticism and gets their feelings hurt when an overpriced stage with horrid figures didn't fund. You’re exactly right. Now, I’m mad all over again. 🤬 Ultimate Edition Cody is why I refuse to ever pre-order figures based on renders. I love Mattel figures so isanely much and I will keep buying them but GOD have they done some really dumb stuff that's just... You look at stuff like Ultimate Cody. Ultimate Usos. The original Kane UE. The supply debacle of Ultimate Logan Paul. UE Angle. UE Eddie. Just the UE line, their supposed top of the top line, and you just scratch you head like, WHY??? And that's not even getting into stuff like wrong torso choices and weird paint apps on Elites. You'd think that, with as long as it takes for a figure to get from idea to shelf, they'd be able to get it right.

The last part re the stage is really important. The "criticism" was largely - we want to back this but we are being ripped off, stop ripping us off and let us invest. And Mattel said F you. Then took a huff. It's been in a weird state of flux ever since.

In spending time on this board I've noticed something big. Most everyone here seems to be legends only collectors. And thing 2 I've noticed. There is a LOT of complaining about the figures. I can't help but think these things are connected. Legends are well represented in the Mattel line... but not recently. Not as far as number of new legends. There's so many legends which haven't seen a single figure in ages or figures we're never getting again. We're probably never getting another Jannetty. LOD seems unlikely at this point. Some guys like the Wild Samoans, I can't imagine would be hard to get under a deal, they just haven't bothered to do so again. Sure we're still getting some FTIL legends but those original legends figures feel so much more diverse. On top of that, flashback figures of signed talent just never seems to happen. Team X-Treme Hardyz. ECW/AE Dudleyz. Sting. Edge and Christian. Did I mention Team X-Treme? You know the words to this song, it gets sung here enough. Meanwhile, there are a billion Hogans and Warriors and, before he was gone, so dang many Machos as well. I get that those guys move merch, but it feels like a "quality vs quantity" sort of thing. Rather than having a quality, wide selection of legends, we have the ones that Mattel can make, and then hundreds of those guys alone. This is NOT Mattel's fault. At all. But for people who collect exclusively flashbacks and legends, I can see how it might make them lose interest in the hobby as opposed to someone who enjoys the current product and collects that stuff. Dammit have to retype my response. Basically you nailed it. I believe this is also due to fatigue as the line has gotten very big and few have space for their collections so many have gotten picky and only pick up what they like. Lastly I believe the bigger impact of this is the dying action figure market. The reasons for that are many (pricepont/repeat lines/literal dying out of 80s old school collectors; The average age is now between 45 and 55 and 70 for those who were already 30 year old adults collecting in the 80s) Also hasbro and mattel know they have nothing to replace tmnt/he-man/star wars/gijoe/transformers. All they can do is add a thundercats and dinosaucers/dinobots line(s). They can keep repeating the same gimmick in other lines but at some point most of us have had enough. I am currently collecting the superstars/retro lines but I would never attempt to add a 3rd line especially since I am still trying to complete other lines I have already collected for years. I would imagine many legends collectors are in this boat. They are just hanging around until all their favorite wrestlers are made. Some sadly as I understand will never be signed back on like Jesse ventura:( Good points and happy reading.

It’s strange how my standards have raised dramatically between Jakks and Mattel. Mattel are light years ahead of Jakks. And I was an adult during the Ruthless Aggression era. WM14 HBK had the wrong hair style and lace up boots and I was A-OK with it. I bought the Chinese New Year La Resistance and didn’t mind that much because it’s just a tag team and they came with the tag belts. ABA Undertaker and the first modern tights Taker were significantly shorter than the first return Jeff Hardy with his giant head. And I accepted it.
And here I am 15-20 years later and I’m still unbelievably annoyed that HBK has knee-high Japanese style kickpads and Diesel/Kevin Nash never has an elbow pad. Mattel figures have so much articulation and detail, better scaling, and a crazy selection and they’re not that much more expensive than Jakks when adjusted for inflation and considering the extra articulation.
And I’m not saying nobody has a right to complain when it’s their money. I’m saying it’s weird that I’ve become so persnickety when my standards used to be way lower. Even early in my Mattel collecting career, I was using WM2000 X-Pac, NWO Hollywood Scott Hall, Wolfpac Nash, and a WM9 Hogan head on a Vince McMahon body and that was my NWO. So why have I become so OCD about everything Mattel does? I have no idea. I think I forgot how to have fun.

I’m a hardcore collector and I’m losing interest in WWE figs as well. I’m still heavy into MOTU, Super7, NECA and a couple others. As a huge legends collector, mainly it’s the store exclusives that have turned me sour- Walmart especially. I shouldn’t have to turn to scalpers to get figures I want. In 2023, Walmart should easily be able to sell their figures online. Excluding the Brother Love set, it’s been easy and stress free getting the Legends, Fan Takeover UE and multipacks from Target online I blame Mattel more than Walmart and that has just started to turn me off. I am having this same frustration with the superstars line. I hear some say it is walmarts fault and others mattel. I believe simply that walmart is not doing as good as we think and struggling with their price points since they cater to lower income people. More people shop at lidl/aldi than they do walmart for their groceries now for example. So as to tie that into my point, figures are 1) getting too expensive and walmart barely ever marks them down until there are just a few left whereas target regularly marks them down even before a new wave comes in. 2) as you mentioned their online shop is basically amazon.com for scalpers since they hardl ever have the figures in stock and when preordered they barely ever come in. 3)most of us have been doing toy runs for years and most of us have given up on walmart having anything in stock when we go to look for it so we are forced to buy it on ebay or hope ringside has a sale. 4) since walmart is struggling they are cutting down on employees and have less control on what happens behind the scenes. Employees only put out what they have however which is why I am stuck on deciding on who is at fault since we don't know numbers. If we knew how many of each figure was made we would know how many each walmart would expect. If anyone with knowledge in that field wants to chime in than they would fascinate me. I have seen some low numbered exclusives back in the days like polka dot dusty Rhodes etc but it would seem like mattel now puts out figures in higher volume since the demand is higher.

A lot of good points made in this thread.
One of the biggest things for me is the lack of new Legends/alumni.

Yes, another reason as pointed out above. If tiny one man band companies can get these wrestlers under contract what utter garbage contracts are Mattel offering or not. Loads of iconic wrestlers still to do in at least Elite form: The Mountie The Rougeaus Koko B Ware Haku The Barbarian (singles & POP) King Kong Bundy (legends was ok needs a re do ) Model Rick Martel Akeem One Man Gang Bobby Heenan (manager) Hercules Power & Glory Andy Kaufman Cyndi Lauper Hillbilly Jim The Godwins The Legion of Doom Demolition (re releases needed in same packing) Crush Evil Crush NOD Crush Mr Fuji The Bushwackers Hacksaw Jim Duggan Inc 1993 blue singlet look The Genius Texas Tornado The Beverley Brothers Repo Man Skinner Papa Shango (needs a re do) Luna Steiner Brothers Giant Gonzalez Quebecers Long haired Bulldog Heel 123 Kid Savio vega Carlito Headbangers Ahmed Johnson LOD 2000 Hardcore Holly Sparky Plugg Sable Steve Blackman William Regal (early 2000s) / Steven Regal (blue bloods) Dudley Boyz (WWF & ECW looks) Stacey Keibler (Duchess of dudleyville) Spike Dudley Just curious if this list is complete or if they were just examples. I have heard some people talking about Jesse ventura and the rockers as well. Maybe this can be a new thread so I can look for these missing figures in other lines. Thanks for adding this info. Edit: I'm going to add these figures by member "flair forever". Maybe we can build a master list together. Doctor of Style, Slick New Bobby The Brain Heenan figures New Ric Flair figures with Robes Rock & Roll Express (rockers) Jim Cornette Glacier / Mortis Bad News Brown More Sting figures (especially Surfer Blonde Sting with soft goods jackets). Earl Hebner A proper Million Dollar Man (maybe an Ultimate). Mattel hasn't done him justice yet. Melina Steve "Mongo" McMichael and Debrah Woman (Nancy Benoit, yes I know it won't happen and probably shouldn't. I'd buy it though). Dino Bravo Rugged Ronnie Garvin Harley Race (as a WCW manager of Lex Luger and Vader). WCW Ravishing Rick Rude (with US Title, short hair, appropriate tights). Fifi The Maid (needed for my Flair collection, yes). Hollywood Blondes Brian Pillman Sweet Sapphire (Dusty Rhodes manager Edit#2 adding more names I found from page 3 Killer Khan Kevin Sullivan Pedro Morales Dory Funk Jerry Briscoe Bruiser Brody Stan Hansen Abdullah The Butcher Billy Jack Haynes El Gigante or Giant Gonzales Adam Bomb Outback Jack Tony Atlas Crusher Blackwell Ivan Putski Sabu Dick The Brusier The Crusher Ken Patera Dino Bravo Jimmy Snuka (Updated) Jessie Ventura Ernie Ladd Ole Anderson Dick Murdock David Von Erich Wahoo McDaniel Tommy Rich Ox Baker Great Muta Adrian Adonis Adrian Street Boogie Woogie Man Nick Bockwinkel Black Jack Lanza Black Jack Mulligan Bobo Brazil Buddy Rogers Jay Strongbow Baron Von Raschke Killer Kowalski The Fridge Gordon Solie Antonio Inoki Mil Mascaras Mike Tyson Carlos Colon Rock and Roll Express Midnight Express Jeff Jarrett Andy Kaufman

ngl Target got me spoiled with these $6-7 clearance sales for Legends and UEs. Don't think I've paid full price for an figure that wasn't a WM exclusive line.

Imo what has hurt the mattel line is lack of playsets and accessories. They are efficient in keeping the roster up to date but what fun is a roster without vehicles, backstage areas, gear variety, etc? Imagine a rafters set you can put Sting on? It's just boring.

I will always say it, U.E. is out of scale. But you know this always happens, brands put out their best work early, hook the people in, mass produce and then the quality suffers. Remember that there would be someone from WWE approving everything too. I think it's sad that the new collectors cannot tell the difference but even sadder that the OG's are eating everything up due to Fear Of Missing Out... I do have some U.E.'s but I also find we get them on the Elite line anyways (which will always be the best line). I just can't believe we came full circle!!! Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle, Triple H, The Rock, Warrior... all the same (except height which nowadays the majority of ppl do not even care about!) But the worst thing personally is how they neglect international markets (which doesn't seem to happen with other brands or Mattel lines) retail has Hot Wheels, Barbie, He-Man, etc. (or online stores) I reckon that if Mattel started with U.E.'s we would have all gone... "so they are just like Deluxe Aggressions with extra accessories..." and would not have jumped so soon. Just look at this beautiful scale:::: (credit Lyle Movie Files) I dare someone to do this photo with the U.E.'s lol

Not trying to play devil's advocate here but some of you need to chill and take a breath. I get the frustration from the long time collectors. Especially when another year goes by and all you have to look forward to is figures of guys you already have, but now in yellow. But Mattel can only work with who they have access to. It's not like they can just call up WWE/Endeavor/TKO and be like "hey can you guys sign these 20 names so we can make some action figures?"
I'm like many of you, I primarily focus on Golden Era to roughly the very start of the Ruthless Aggression Era. But I only got into buying Mattel stuff because Jazwares has been struggling to get product even on store shelves. We've gotten exactly 3 Luminaries (that Sting shouldn't even count) and 3 "LJN" figures(not counting Cody's repaint). The Supreme line seems virtually dead at this point. Meanwhile Hasbro enthusiasts have been dealing with scam artists, brittle toys, 2+ year wait times on preorders and 5 or 6 different companies trying to cannibalize each other's sales.
The Mattel board has Steve who frequently comes here to answer your questions. Only other people who do that is Matt Cardona and Kanik in the Big Rubber Guys thread. You think Jeremy Padawer or Magic are going to come on here to deal with 300+ pages of "why do all your shirts stain the figures?" & "Where's muh CM Punk?!"
I guess what I'm trying to say is: this board has got it better than literally every other board on here. There's no need for multiple posts and threads calling for people at Mattel to be fired because they can't make LOD figures. But hey, that's just my opinion here. You all can go back to screaming into the void if you'd like.

The elite series with the IC bret is in one of our toy chains
I looked over half dozen brets and everyone had paint issues - marks on his face, random paint on the tights etc. really not great and I’m pretty easy going in general and give leeway but when half a dozen all have different issues snd very visible it’s a bit disappointing

I see a lot of posts in this forum saying people on this board have said they want folks fired at Mattel for some reason. It's weird because I've never actually seen one post like that. It’s just another way of dismissing criticism and valid complaints I guess.

I only collect WCW from about nWo 96 to 2000. I sold off everything and only try to get figures that focus in or that I can add in to that time period. I got the legends Henning and Bulldog yesterday as they fit in. For me, the majority of everything that comes out I have no interest in. Now the Monday Nigh Wars line is gonna be big for me, I’m prepping for that, both in buying and being disappointed that it’s not in stock and I’m using Mercari.

im in the same boat, as a long time supporter of Mattel. the problem im coming across is the same figures being made over and over again...in different attires.. after about the 3rd release of an attire, i think thats more than enough.
its fatigue.
and then throw in , new characters are so far and few between , then they have either too big of a head (BAF Bulldog) for example, and then you get others with a proper scaled head...etc..etc.
in the process of selling all my big head figures. and thankfully reviewers are able to help me buying or passing. this is a non issue for others, but for me there is nothing worse than having out of scale heads that simply dont match the rest of the roster i care to use. (i have mostly focused on my own pic fed which plays a huge part) i simply dont have room for a massive collection or for them to sit on a shelf and collect dust. pic fed gives me at least some usage of the money i spent.
anyhow , everyone has a different focus, i also agree with the above poster of lack of playsets or accessories, the forklift, ambulance , cars...were all good ideas..we need more of that kinda stuff .
