......who did you think the 3rd man with Hall & Nash was going to be? If your imagination was firing who were you picturing? for me I was fully convinced it was Bret Hart.
We hadn't seen Bret on WWF tv for way longer than Hall & Nash who both looked at the lights @iyh Good Friends in April....Bret hadn't been seen since WM12 and barely mentioned. so I was 100% expecting it to be him. Now Hogan's reveal still blew my mind as a 16 year old but yeah I was totally expecting Bret to jump Hogan.
Who were you guys expecting?

Me and my friends were expecting Sid. He hadn't been seen on WWF television since January (I believe), and Hall said that at the PPV they had an even bigger surprise than Nash. So, we were thinking another giant-type wrestler.

i knew it had to be somebody big. i was getting meltzers newletter at the time and even he was speculating big time. i thought a big name like piper, warrior, or sid. i personally thought bret, but newspletters said he was still under contract for awhile. same with micheals.

I was thinking it would be one of the WCW guys. Sting being at the forefront. His look was changing and I thought something was up with that
Side note but that Mable rumor is still ridiculous 27 yrs later

I was 7 at the time and was thinking Luger would betray Sting and Savage.
My Dad thought Sting
Dad friend thought HBK
Uncle had the most ridiculous of the 4 of us with Hacksaw.
My mom though who hates wrestling said she bets that it's Hogan with everyone mocking her until 2hrs later when it happened.

Luger getting took out so early was a big red herring....he was a WWF guy only a year before & you didn't see guys getting took out so easily...I was thinking it was him then

The thing that always bothered me is they had Macho over Flair on the tag team. I feel like Flair would have been right there defending WCW

I thought Sting. As cool as The Outsiders were at the time, if I am being honest I do not actually remember caring all that much about who the third man was.
Someone from WWF never even entered my mind neither did Hogan people who never watched at them time can probably never fathom just how big of a deal this was.

The NWO would have been dead on arrival. Hogan was clearly the right choice.

The thing that always bothered me is they had Macho over Flair on the tag team. I feel like Flair would have been right there defending WCW I remember there being a debate by WCW on who should be on the team, Flair and Arn were both candidates. I also wonder if the choices of Lex and Macho over Flair and Arn were because they wanted to keep the audience guessing. Flair and Arn were seen more as WCW guys like Sting, whereas Macho and Lex were seen more as WWF guys. So maybe they were hoping the fans would think it was one of them who was going to turn, completely throwing off any suspicion of Hogan. I also wonder if they went with Macho, lex and Sting because they were the babyfaces in WCW at the time, and maybe they wanted to make sure that the NWO were seen as the bad guys. Also, Hogan coming in and dropping the leg on Savage was a bigger heel move than dropping the leg on Flair. Hogan and Savage were portrayed as good friends, so it was a double heel move by Hogan - turning on WCW and his friend, Savage.

Bischoff has said the positive crowd reaction Hall & Nash was getting was already kind of worrying but he felt he was on the right road.

"The big guy, and the medium size guy" well there was only one guy left....
The 123 Kid!!
I legit thought it was gonna be Sean Waltman ha ha ha. Of course, Sean showed up a few months later to be in the NWO, but I honestly thought it was going to be him.
I was such a teenage mark to think that ha ha ha

Fun time during the Summer of 96 looking back
You had this angle going on and over in the WWF you had Mankind/Taker with Austin/Bret on the horizon. Good times

And you had the whole HBK vs. Camp Cornette feud too that summer. That went from May - August, and it was fun and enjoyable to watch the entire time!
