I wasn't able to watch ECW but I new about them through the magazines. It was really fun to see them in person and was totally different
Weird to think they were there on Raw in 97 though.
You have NWO in WCW the cool thing to watch then you have Raw which was pretty weird at the time with this promotion ECW invading it that not a lot of people probably knew

Yup!
I first heard of ECW in an issue of The Wrestler magazine from 1993 talking about the new Dangerous Alliance.
Then I saw my first ECW episode in January 1994.
Then after 8 months they took it off that channel and I didn't see it again until two friends and me got a satellite dish in December 1996 to watch ECW again.
So in February 1997 when ECW invaded Raw I was fully aware of ECW and that whole angle, cause of watching ECW TV then.
I remember watching ECW in June 1997 when Jerry Lawler debuted in the ECW Arena and how crazy the fans were over that.
Man, 1997 was such a fun year for wrestling!

Yea, I religiously bought Power Slam magazine every month since mid ‘94 and their ECW coverage was enough to make me feel well acquainted with the style, stories and characters. When it comes to seeing them on TV, I can’t remember if I had seen video footage of an ECW show first or if their WWF appearance was the first time I’d seen them on camera. Either way I knew that what was shown of them on WWF was just a small sample of ECW and wasn’t really showcasing the attitude and general mentality of the product very well.

Yes I knew of it, but other than a few wrestlers couldn’t stand it. It televised like an informercial. Aired in the middle of the night and personally I found it too extreme for my taste.

Yeah. ECW would come on at 2 AM on like Fridays or something when I lived in North Carolina, like 95/96 or something.

I had red about it in Power Slam Magazine here in the UK, but since around either early 96 or late 95 a guy my dad knew which was kind of weird as my dad was not a wrestling fan at all, did the whole tape trading thing and he got me a few ECW tapes, Double Tables 95 being the first ECW event I ever saw.
One early memory I have of ECW is when they crashed In Your House Mind Games, I read about it in Power Slam Magazine and it made getting the VHS for that Christmas even more exciting! While I liked the event, I expected this big brawl to happen, but it pretty much cut out whatever happened lol.
So while I was not a huge fan at the time of the 97 invasion angle, I knew about the promotion and thought it was cool.

What I loved most about ECW that unfortunately the WWE Network doesn't give us, is just the music that was used.
Hype Central with Lance Wright had great grunge or hip hop music playing in the background.
You had the song "Millennium" by Killing Joke playing as they air credits on the screen for the next ECW shows at the Arena and other places.
The music videos of "Simply The Best" by Tina Turner for Shane Douglas, as well as just all the other music videos that ECW put out.
The November To Remember music video done by Guns 'n" Roses "November Rain".
The actual songs being theme songs for ECW wrestlers. Every time I hear "Man In The Box" by Alice In Chains I will always think of Tommy Dreamer.
The WWE Network loses all that. Which is why I still enjoy watching ECW from the original TV airings even if it isn't the best picture quality.

Those clip interviews to this song are classic!
Damn, imagine if Paul E. had Vince's money back then.
It's funny, I know Paul was trying to make ECW bigger than to compete with WWF and WCW and thus ended up hurting themselves financially, but if Paul had kept ECW going the way it was, and letting guys go to WCW or WWF he would have had a whole new crop of guys in the early 2000s.
Christopher Daniels and Matt Bentley were already wrestling for ECW near the end, so was Matthews and York, and he wanted to bring in Low Ki and push him as the new Taz type wrestler who was submission master and MMA type guy. He would have also gotten all the ROH guys too, and ECW would have been able to keep going.
But that's the whole "what if" scenario and perhaps in another universe this did happen.

Yes and no, I guess. I was still a kid but my brother had shown me some ECW so I knew Paul from WCW tapes I had seen and I was familiar with RVD based off my bit of ECW viewing but it was way over my head at the time
