I will also admit to not being a huge fan of the American Badass gimmick. It didn't help that The Undertaker wasn't in the best physical shape in 2000-2001, but that run was pretty forgettable. I thought his heel turn was great though and made that incarnation of the character at least palatable for me for that brief period throughout 2002. Unfortunately, he reverted back to being a babyface for all of 2003 which sucked. I'm sure he loved that era simply because he could finally ease up on protecting kayfabe. Just didn't do much for me. when he turned baby again before Summerslam 02 he had a great run for a couple of months. that HIAC vs Lesnar in October was f*cking phenomenal. one of the worst hardway cuts ever too This along with the triple threat at Vengeance are my favs from this entire run

I was there when Taker turned heel on JR. I was 4 years old and I remember asking my dad why the Undertaker was a bad guy now.

Loved Taker’s heel run but the segment where he turned heel dragged out way too long. Seemed to just go on and on and I believe it spanned multiple commercial breaks with McMahon having his pants down the whole time. That whole month following Survivor Series was weird as they were resetting everyone (Austin is a face again, McMahon and Taker as heels, ect…).

They pushed him as a heel for the past eight months despite fans still wanting to cheer him. Then literally the night after survivor series he comes out and they act like he’s been a face this entire time. Same with Vince just suddenly being a heel again. Atleast they did a segment for Taker’s turn. I gotta throw Kurt in there as well. He was a massive face over the summer, turned heel for one month by joining the Alliance, saves the WWF at survivor series, yet is stil treated as a heel due to McMahon also randomly turning heel again. One of the strangest months in this company’s history.

I enjoyed it but damn do I wish they kept him baby so he could have teamed with Kane against Hall and Nash.

Wouldn't have happened anyway man....He vetoed any involvement with them from the time they were first mentioned in Oct of 01 and requested to turn heel so he wouldn't be a viable option. Its no coincidence that when the nWo angle fizzled out he went baby again.

One of the strangest months in this company’s history. That Kurt heel turn broke my little heart as an 11 year old. Angle was my guy during the Invasion era and he killed it. He was so there, then they threw it all away and made him the heel mole. Then they boo Angle for saving the WWF and make Austin face after being despicable and cowardly for months? Kayfabe, whatever. But logically? No sense. Still grinds my gears.

Great turn and really added to his character. That stretch with him as champ was underrated, cool tv feuds with Dreamer and Hardy and then the triple threat with Rock and Angle.

Had his best match with Austin during this time too Backlash was a classic, and I loved the build-up for it
