Howdy folks,
Thought we could have fun talking about what is one of, if not my favorite of all the In Your House PPVs from the mid 90s. Taking place in December, In Your House 5 is an event that I watch every year around the holiday season. It only asks for a couple of hours of your time and it is fun New Generation era wrestling. The Bret Hart vs British Bulldog match is awesome, I prefer this over their match at SummerSlam. Not just because of the epic bloodbath that it ended up being. I think this feels like a much more fast paced and harder hitting match overall. I also love the way that this match and the match they had at SummerSlam did not end with a "finishing move" but with each guy catching the other in a clever pinfall.
While it is the main event that gets all of the attention, this is a fun show from start to end. I was all in on the tag team of Marty Jannetty and Razor Ramon. Jannetty was a huge favorite of mine and when he returned a few weeks earlier (before the Survivor Series) I thought it was awesome and I was really digging his new singlet attire. Speaking of attire, does anyone else remember the super weird leather jacket thing going on here? Why was these two wearing leather jackets such a big deal?
The HOG Pen match between HHH and Henry Godwin was a ton of fun and a great way to bring their feud to an end. We also had Diesel vs Owen Hart, it was awesome seeing this meaner, badass version of Diesel, even if I think it would have been cool to see the match go a little longer. The casket match with Undertaker and Mabel was not the best, but it does not last very long and it also brought their feud to a close. Actually, now that I think about it, In Your House 5 is one of the more storyline heavy In Your House shows with less matches that feel like they were just thrown together.
I never saw this one live as we did not get In Your House here in the UK until 1997. I did get it on VHS a couple of months later and I watched the Bret vs Bulldog match about 100 times! I would loved to have seen this live, I bet it was crazy to see Bret bleed as much as he did.
What are your thoughts on this show?
