I'm no expert in Japanese wrestling but I've seen my fair amount of matches. But I don't think I've ever seen a cage match from 2000 & before for the 2 major organizations AJPW NJPW. Now I know the smaller groups & the women had cage matches. Did the big feds not do it at all or often? Is there a famous cage match from the 2 big groups?

The big boys (NJPW and AJPW) never really strayed from traditional matches. Pretty much as zesty as they would get would be 6 or 8 man tags. Later on NJPW did have a cage match per year in '03 with Takayama VS Chono. AJPW had one in 2010. Those instances are still very much out of the norm though.
