So... Ted is number 2, and gets eliminated before number 3 even hits the ring.
That almost felt like a squash for poor Million Dollar Man there. I wonder if he was injured going into that event, or if that was the WWF's way of squashing the singles career of Ted since he would be joining IRS in days to become Money Inc. and win the Tag Titles??
Also, Ted's numbers for the Rumble entries are the best. Sure, 1989 he had 30. But in 90 he had 1, 92 he had 2, and in 93 he had 4. Talk about crappy random luck! Ha ha ha

And in all the other Rumbles he drew 0!
It seems in kayfabe, his wealth must have waned a bit during the early 90’s when he stopped splashing the cash as lavishly, until he grew it back again with enough to fund his own Corporation of wrestlers 😂
I don’t know the story behind his short appearance in the ‘92 Rumble, but I like your theory.

I remember you telling a story that he’d been out with Flair the night before and had bad diarrhoea and that’s why he was eliminated early. I believed it to be true until you said you were joking ha ha! As for the real reason, I’ve no idea. His stock had fallen after the Virgil caper a few months previously so was probably viewed as expendable talent at that point.

The rumbles always needed some kind of quick elimination to show how anything could happen. We think of Luke's 4 second elimination so much but tend to overlook something like Warlord's 1 or 2 seconds in 1989 and Ted's in 1992. It was probably just done to show that even a guy who can go a long time in the ring, can be taken out so quickly. It also probably made Bulldog look good and make fans think he could possibly go through everyone and win.
Also, it was noted (in 1990, not sure about other years) that Jack Tunney made it so Ted couldn't buy a number. He was given low numbers in the planning to prove that it was random now. Gorilla would also point this out each year.

Ted had started to feel the grind at this stage too. I think he volunteered to be part of Vince's new top heel team when he was looking for suggestions because it would ease the load on him a bit. By mid 1993 he was absolutely wrecked with back, neck and knee issues & had to nix a feud with Money Inc vs Smokin Gunns after the Steiners because in his own words
"I wasn't able to carry the load, I was too busted up and the guys were green as hell...It wouldn't have been fair to Mike to be going around the horn with those guys in a programme when I couldn't do my share" He opted to put Hall over instead in a one off singles match and just hang them up.

He essentially was put in a team with IRS cause his back issues were starting to hinder him. Maybe this event he was really struggling?
