I watched the 2005 Rumble match tonight and the fact Vince McMahon no sold the two torn quads as he sat in the ring, not showing any grimace or pain on his face, is insanely crazy to think! He had to have been just screaming on the inside as he no sold it. Talk about a tough S.O.B.!!
As for the Rumble match, it was on par with the 2004 one.
- Benoit coming in at 2 and staying in past 30 - Edge eliminating Eddie Guerrero, Ric Flair and Rey Mysterio - The Kurt Angle/Shawn Michaels feud started - Jim Ross constantly mistaking Charlie Haas for Rene Dupree - The Raw and Smackdown stars attacking Hassan - Benoit, Eddie and Hardcore Holly destroying Daniel Puder - Paul London's insane back flip to the Snitsky clothesline - the final four being Batista, Cena, Edge and Mysterio
Again, a lot of good stuff in this Rumble match too!
What is everyone's thoughts on the 2005 Royal Rumble match??

It was definitely interesting cause it answered the question that was wondered for a while, what would happen if the intended winner got eliminated.

For all his (many) faults, I absolutely love Vince. One of the craziest people I’ve ever seen.
The story I heard about him tearing his quads was that he only did one in the ring and did his other as he refused help with walking back stage. Either way one of the toughest men to enter wrestling. Not many billionaires p!ss themselves in the ring, fall on to tables etc.
I don’t remember much of the event itself, so can’t really comment on the thread itself!

That whole scene with Vince was nuts 🤣🤣🤣.
I like this RR but I don't think it was on par with 04 which is top 5 for me.

Vince sitting in the ring with Cena/Batista keeping it kayfabe by pleading their case is still awkward/funny as hell almost 20 yrs later But anytime I think of this Rumble I think of the London bump...

I seriously thought Daniel Puder was going to win because they were making such a big deal with the $1 Million Tough Enough and I figured there was a reason they put him in there. Im so glad he didnt though.

Im so glad he didnt though. There was a reason Puder was entered. It was to get his sh*t rocked by Eddie, Benoit, and Hardcore Holly.

Who was the intended winner?
Batista
Were they supposed to go over at the same time, with Batista hanging on? Or were they supposed to go over at the same time with Batista hitting the floor last?

I believe Batista was supposed to hang on.
To be fair though, I felt that ending made it way more exciting. Because for a few minutes we really didn't know what the deal was. Then the restart of the match and Batista throws Cena out and we know. So they recovered it nicely.

To this day I refuse to believe that Cena & Batista's double elimination was an accident. I was too perfect, both men fall out and land on the floor at the SAME TIME. No way would that have happed if it was a botch.
Also, Vince proved just how much a warrior he is. The pain must have been unbearable and he completely no sold it.

This Rumble is what got me back into wrestling in 05’
Orton vs. HHH specifically, it was my first time seeing Orton and I was a fan instantly.

That simultaneous elimination was a thing of beauty and could not have gone more perfectly (not counting the Vince thing, talking purely of the Batista-Cena element).
It was like poetry in motion. They could not have landed more in sync.
The whole thing about the aftermath and the referees raising the hand of their respective brand's man was really clever too. That was what made me feel it was scripted but they could have thought so quickly and were maybe told in their earpieces (if they had them, I forget). Both Cena and Batista trying to eliminate each other during this confusion was also well done and highlighted how they both "got it".
But you look at Batista's face after falling on the outside mat, he was like "s***, have I f***ed up?", visible confusion and not knowing what to do. That's what makes it clear it wasn't intended and you go along with Prichard's recounting of it all.
I'd have liked Vince to not have stolen the spotlight with his quad tear, because it does take it away from the finish. It's one of those "famous for the wrong reason" moments that basically eclipse the original drama. What would it have been like and how would we remember it without Vince sitting in the ring? Who knows. I'd like to think it would have stood on its own. Similar to Luger-Bret but this tops that IMO.

I always wonder what Vince would have done had he not torn his Quads. Because he runs to the ring likes he’s going to come in and throw Batista & Cena out himself lol.

Vince no selling a legit crippling injury will always be amazing to me. Its so funny to hear the different perspectives of Prichard & Bischoff on this...LOL
