Santino Marella and Alberto Del Rio being the final two in a 40 man Royal Rumble in 2011. Doubt anyone had that in their betting pool at the time. Thinking about some major guys who practically did everything else but never won a Rumble - i.e. Kurt Angle, Randy Savage, Ultimate Warrior 2012 Rumble selection was kinda bizarre - Ricardo Rodriguez, Michael Cole, Kharma, Only one Uso, etc... Angle,Warrior,Savage should have all won it

Hogan saves him and Savage jumps him and knocks him off the turnbuckle as Hogan is arguing with Slick or someone. Crowd would have ate that up. Would have been a better winner than Studd 🤷

I always like seeing the green young talent come in and have no idea what to do causing everyone's timing to be off for a minute or two

Up until last year, there were more winners from the # 1 or 2 entrants (Shawn Michaels, Vince McMahon, Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, Edge) than there were from #30 (Undertaker, John Cena, HHH, Brock Lesnar, Cody Rhodes).

Would have been a better winner than Studd 🤷 I remember thinking years ago that Savage would have been a better winner than Studd and it could have worked perfectly in the Mega Powers angle. Particularly when Vince was going to forgo Hogan as the winner...definately should have went Savages way. have him draw an early number and do lots of sneaky heel stuff all through(only eliminating faces) while showing Elizabeth's disapproval outside....Could have been great stuff

It would have made Hogan no selling his sh*tehawk finisher and flattening him with the most satisfying finish in WM history all the sweeter. absolute magic from the Hulkster!! but seriously I wouldn't have had Hogan be the last guy either...make it some other over face....Brutus, Warrior etc.

Particularly when Vince was going to forgo Hogan as the winner...definately should have went Savages way. have him draw an early number and do lots of sneaky heel stuff all through(only eliminating faces) while showing Elizabeth's disapproval outside....Could have been great stuff Yeah, Savage winning would have been great. I like your idea about Hogan saving Savage earlier on in the match only for Savage to eliminate Hogan later (either by sneakily pushing him out, or just outright eliminating when he had the opportunity). The way they did it, actually made Savage look like he was cheated by his friend, so he had an actual gripe instead of being jealous liked they tried to make it look. I also agree with others, that Brutus could have been one of the last guys in with Savage eliminating him as well. I think the last 4 could have been Savage, Brutus, Studd, and DiBiase. Savage, Brutus, and DiBiase all work together to eliminate Studd, then Savage eliminates DiBiase while DiBiase has Brutus over the ropes which eliminates Brutus as well. The thing with the Royal Rumble at the time, I don't think they really wanted their top guys to win, I think they wanted to use it to get over some of the other guys. Studd was about to start a feud with Andre after the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania, I think they were hoping this would have pushed him to greater heights. In the 1988 Rumble match, there were a few guys that could have won it, but neither Hogan, Savage, DiBiase or Andre were in it. Savage didn't do anything that night, so he could have easily been in the 1988 Rumble match and won it, setting up his 1988. Even in 1990, they weren't looking to have Hogan win it, I believe Mr. Perfect was supposed to be the original winner, but Hogan lobbied for it to be him. After that happened, and the following year, I think that changed the way they looked at the Royal Rumble winner. Then in 1992, it was for the title, so a top guy had to win. Then after that, the winner of the Rumble match would automatically be in the main event at WrestleMania, so again, a top guy had to win.

Something I always found weird, at the 1993 Royal Rumble, Bobby Heenan kept calling Lex Luger "Narcissus" Lex Luger. I always thought he just had a hard time pronouncing Narcissist. But I saw a video today of Gene Okerlund calling him the same thing. So, I looked it up, apparently, he was originally supposed to be called the Narcissus Lex Luger, but they quickly changed it to Narcissist.
Wikipedia: Bobby "The Brain" Heenan unveiled him with the persona of "Narcissus" at Royal Rumble 1993. Shortly thereafter, his name was altered slightly to "The Narcissist".
So, I looked into the history of the word, apparently, Narcissus is a character from Roman literature: The term narcissism comes from the Roman poet Ovid's Metamorphoses, written in the year 8 CE. Book III of the poem tells the mythical story of a handsome young man, Narcissus, who spurns the advances of many potential lovers. When Narcissus rejects the nymph Echo, who was cursed to only echo the sounds that others made, the gods punish Narcissus by making him fall in love with his own reflection in a pool of water. When Narcissus discovers that the object of his love cannot love him back, he slowly pines away and dies.
Also interesting, there was a real wrestler named Narcissus back in the year 192 AD: Narcissus was a Roman athlete, likely a wrestler, from the 2nd century AD. He is best known to history as the assassin of the Roman Emperor Commodus, by whom he was employed as a wrestling partner and personal trainer in order to train Commodus for his self-indulgent appearances in the Colosseum as a gladiator. In AD 192 he was recruited by several senators, led by Praetorian prefect Quintus Aemilius Laetus, to assassinate the emperor. On 31 December 192, Commodus's concubine and conspirator Marcia admitted Narcissus into Commodus's bedchamber. Commodus was supposedly in a drunken stupor after Marcia had poisoned him and Narcissus proceeded to strangle his master in his bathtub or, according to Herodian, in his bed. The fictional character of general Maximus Decimus Meridius (played by Russell Crowe in the movie Gladiator) was partially based on Narcissus alongside being based on Marcus Aurelius's general Marcus Nonius Macrinus, Spartacus, Cincinnatus and Maximus of Hispania.
Very interesting. So, should they have kept the name Narcissus, or do you like the name they went with "The Narcissist" Lex Luger?
