So recently I listened to an episode of Cornette's drive through where a listener asked him was it true that if Ole didn't have to fire Matt Borne from GCW that Hawk & Animal wouldn't have had their shot? Jim confirmed it was and told the tale.....
He said that Arn & Borne were being prepped to be the dominant heel team in the territory but Ole had to fire Borne because he was getting into hassle with the ladies and they was going to be legit heat from it. Cue Ole needing a new heel team and quick. He already had Animal but found him a partner and the rest is history.
the last part was what really intrigued me though as another Minnesota guy was originally tapped to be Hawk...and that was Rick Rude. Mindblowing stuff!!
Thoughts on this? anybody else ever hear this story?

I do recall this
Rude being a Road Warrior is intriguing as we know in real life he was a badass being a bouncer and all at one point in his life. In the end though I'm glad we got what we got with Hegstrand and Laurinaitis

Ole talks about this in his book. He'd make trips from Georgia to Minnesota every few weeks. When he paired Hawk & Animal together, he created the Georgia National Tag Team Championship titles for them.

Rick Rude is one of my favorite guys to hear stories about. He was such a badass, a legit tough guy, but by all accounts, if he was your friend, he was loyal and a stand up guy that was with you through thick and thin.
It is crazy to think that he could have been Hawk!

I wonder who would win a legit fist fight between Rude and Hawk??
From what I heard, both men in their teenage years would beat the crapout of grown up male adults! So a fight between those two would be crazy to see!

Unfortunately I’ve no information to confirm or deny this.
However I’ve been thinking all day about Rude being in the Road warriors. Man that would have been amazing!

Barry Darsow recently did a shoot interview where he talked about Rick Rude. He said at 16 years old, he snuck into a bar in Minnesota where they were having an arm wrestling tournament. Rude won. When they found out his actual age, they wouldn't give him the prize (which was dinner & drinks for 5, plus a year's worth of free drinks).

Heard Hawk was pretty tough...when Savage busted him from behind at the Kid Rock concert it's said he hardly blinked.
