What are some examples of wrestlers either leaving a promotion or getting signed at precisely the right time, right as a promotion either got white hot or the wheels fell off?

D'Lo Brown should have jumped to WCW with Russo instead of signing a new deal. Vince would have made him a pushed star.

Bret went at the completely wrong time. Had he of waited 4 months Shawn would have been gone.

Bret went at the completely wrong time. Had he of waited 4 months Shawn would have been gone. Yeah, Bret comes to mind for worst timing. He could have jumped ship to WCW in the summer of 1996 right as WCW was taking off, but he stays with the WWF at some of their lowest moments. Then, in late 1997, as the WWF was starting to pick up and get better, he jumps to WCW (though, he has always maintained that he didn't want to go, but Vince was pulling out of his contract). He goes to WCW as they were hitting their peak, but right after Starrcade 97, everything started going wrong at WCW. Had he and Vince been able to come to an agreement in late 1997, he could have been there for WWF's big rise, and he could have been a top veteran to work with new, younger stars, but instead, he was going to WCW at the worst possible time.

The Big Boss Man comes to mind for best jumps: he jumps from NWA/JCP before the WCW sell. Goes to the WWF at a hot time and gets into a feud with Hogan and Macho Man right away. Then, as the WWF is going down in terms of business, he jumps to WCW in 1993 when they were starting to rise at the time and gets put in feuds with some of their biggest heel stars, Rude and Vader. He was also there for WCW's biggest boom period of the NWO. Then, as he was getting used less and less, he jumps ship back to the WWF as Vince's swat guard when the WWF was starting to take over the ratings war. And he gets put in to big feuds with Austin and Taker. Not bad.

Which is kind of ironic in a funny way, because Lance Storm jumped to WCW from ECW just a month later and ends up holding 3 title belts at one time in WCW, and Awesome who is a former ECW World Champion gets no titles and a horrible run.

Lot of good ones mentioned here...here's some wrong times & one right time
Taz to WWF was the wrong time because when Vince got the Radicalz he forgot about him.
Scott Steiner to WWE was the wrong time. He was beat up badly & should have joined in 2001 when he could have made a difference.
Public Enemy to WWF in 99. Underestimated the climate in the locker room to guys jumping from WCW. Jericho experienced it too but played ball better than PE.
Waltman to WWF in 98. Perfect timing as momentum had swung & he had a spot waiting for him
