The entire thing with Savage from 93 onwards is so weird...Prichard keeps contradicting himself on the podcast about it too.
Savage was 5 years older than Bret...6 years older than Hennig, Hall & Luger...& 3 years younger than Jerry Lawler who were rounding out the rest of the top stars in 93. Yoko & UT being significantly younger. He didn't have a steroid physique and could go. His problems of 1992 were behind him...so? was it purely because he had crossed into his 40s?
I've said it many many times but there was cabbage to be made with Savage as an anti NG heel. Feuding with Hart, Hall and even UT....

Nasty Boys get their title shot against Money Inc(which at one time was the plan) and we're all set to go Vince dropped the ball so hard with Randy in that final stretch of his WWF run. Like you mentioned Lawler was 3 yrs older than em! and he got that big feud with Bret that year

Like you mentioned Lawler was 3 yrs older than em! and he got that big feud with Bret that year JR said on his podcast that Lawler was a "new face" for WWF audiences and Randy was seen as one of the faces of the 80s....that was Vince's rationale. Mental really.

Before Hogan got involved, the story goes that Bret was planned to go over Yokozuna and retain the belt at WrestleMania IX. I am the biggest Bret Hart fan you could ever ask for, but does anybody else think that Yoko should have been booked to win? I don't know how you book him moving forward if the match ends with Bret locking him in the Sharpshooter. This was an era where Vince only wanted a babyface to win in the main event, so there was zero chance of Yoko going over at this point in time. However, I don't think that it would have been that hard to put Yoko back in the championship picture. A quick pin where Yoko missed the Banzai Drop (or even the rope could break like it did with Owen) and Bret took advantage wouldn't have made Yoko look weak. Then he could have recaptured the title at KotR or SummerSlam.

And to think, a year later in the midst of the New Generation campaign, a PPV main event featured 40 year-old Roddy Piper going against 44 year-old Jerry Lawler.
