I recently watched The Self Destruction of The Ultimate Warrior DVD for the first time in years.... what a brutal hit piece that was. Anyway, one of the parts of the DVD that always stuck with me was the stuff between Andre the Giant and Warrior. I love Andre, he is a legend and had an aura about him that not many other wrestlers could ever match.
Yet, I find it weird to hear Bobby Heenan talk about how Andre would step on Warrior's hair and basically take liberties with him in the ring. Warrior was no saint and they do say that he would not listen to Andre and do what he wanted so that is perhaps why Andre treated him the way that he did. However, the way the story is told in the documentary it sounds like Warrior learned his lesson and did what Andre wanted, but then he did the stuff like stepping on his hair.
It is probably just me looking way too into it, but I always found it odd that they would celebrate one wrestler abusing another like this, there is no way an interview like this would make it into a modern WWE documentary, not that they make them much these days anyway.
Back when I first saw this and heard that story, I always thought that Andre was 100 percent in the wrong, but the more I think about it now, if Andre did try to teach Warrior how to work better and asked him not to do something, he was kind of justified in doing what he did.
What are your thoughts on this do you think if what Bobby said Andre did was true it was justified?

I do remember Hogan talking about if Andre didn't want to do something, Andre would do his own thing.
Story reminds me of "A Giant's World" in a way. Show was so candid and serious in that one but most of the talking heads took a completely different tone. And Trips taking so much joy in bullying him.

Jake Roberts said Andre did the same thing to him (with the standing on his hair). Then again, Jake has been known to pull stories out of thin air.
Did they say if Andre did the thumb treatment to Warrior? I've heard from different wrestlers that he used to do it to Big John Studd & The Iron Shiek.

Andrea took liberties with many wrestlers...Ax from Demolition asked him not to put the sweat soaked strap in his mouth...But he persisted in doing it. One night it was so bad Eadie had to roll under the ring to be sick because the sweat created a slick with his face paint and it went down his throat.. Jim Duggan was the same only he wasn't so fortunate and got sick outside the ring beside the ring steps.....Orndorff had a story too.
He took many liberties with folks & I always roll my eyes at Prichard getting a giggle out of it on his podcast. These folks were essentially helpless against him. He used to give Savage a hard time too IIRC....Bam Bam as well. He disliked the fanfare of Bam Bams introduction...

he took liberties with everybody, I don't know how Iron Sheik hasn't been mentioned

I can't remember what documentary it was on though. If I remember rightly Duggan was laughing about it. Although he seems like such a good dude he probably took most things in his stride. |

Andre was kind of a piece of crap to be honest.
He seemed like a mean nasty person a lot of the times. The only reason why he didn't take liberties with Hogan at Wrestlemania III is because he knew there was big money to be made there and he didn't wanna screw that up.
I was never an Andre fan. So when I hear these horrible things about him and other wrestlers, it doesn't shock me.

So when I hear these horrible things about him and other wrestlers, it doesn't shock me. true! but ive heard from many wrestlers saying andre had a tough time in life being a giant. it would be very difficult to get around in life that size. so many things hav to be made accomidating for him. smash said he wasd VERY Nice and would give the shirt off his back to those he cared about. even said andre always insisted on paying for everybodys drinks. |

Andre was an arsehole - there's no grey area with that.
He took a lot of liberties with people - sometimes justified, other times, not at all.

The story I remember most from that "documentary", was since Warrior was coming too fast off of the ropes and Andre wasn't ready a few times for it, he just straight up put his fist up and let Warrior run straight into it to "teach him a lesson".
Look, Warrior wasn't great in the ring at times, we all can say that even though his impact was more than the match. I always felt a bit sorry for Warrior after hearing that story. Reason being Andre was not in any sort of condition at that point to be in the ring and was slow as shit. Whoever thought putting them together from a match quality point of view was an idiot.
The whole 2 hours of that DVD is brutal, and even as a teenager when it came out I could appreciate that this was nothing more than a massive dig at Warrior and I couldn't take anything that was said as the truth. The utter disrespect was madness.
