My whole point was that an already huge company Mattel didnāt really care about keeping 1000 collectors or however many when they were going to gain new ones. Itās the same as WWE was for years. āWe know the hardcore arenāt going anywhere, and thereās a new crowd born every day.ā For every bitter middle aged man thereās like 1000 kids that itās new to and are hyped. Not sure if it's the same for you but at least where I live I am 10000% sure that there are more adult collectors than new kids getting interested in WWE figures. (demographic effect) Almost 99% retail stores here don't have WWE figures, in the old Jakks days almost every store had some figures. (yes, even in Europe!!) Kids will buy those new Excl. figures? Sorry, don't think so. I gotta think parents still buy kids figures. Every Vintage Stock I go to or Craigslist lot is beat up figures from a kid that outgrew them or whatever. After all these are meant to be played with not treated like holy grails of action figure collecting. Maybe in 30-40 yearsā¦

Interestingly, the only ones on back order are the Dudleys. Not DX, not Kane, not Warriorā¦ only the Dudleys. Supply & Demand...or something.... my theory... There's been 50 Kane elites '09 DX isn't exactly everyone's favorite time period... There's been 87 Ultimate Warrior Elites '06 Cena isn't a high priority to children and families (which everyone here seems to think these toys are only for) Survivor Series '96 'Taker is cool, but he's also another guy who's had 67 Elites including 2 from the same time period that are been and have been released recently (recent Legends, and MNW) the only reason these original figures were expensive now was because they were a decade old (DX) and/or hard to find at retail (Warrior) they're selling to people who were annoyed that secondary market prices were upwards of $100 for each of these. and eventually other people will find their way to them and they will go (all the Greatest Hits moved too, just some took a little longer than others) These aren't re-do's of super sought-after extremely limited must-have figures for everyone, which is also why re-doing them is a weird decision. It's like someone just ebay searched "Mattel 2010 elite" and sorted by highest sold price.

Theyāre all on back order except HHH, Warrior and Undertaker.
This is just what the bourgeois wants. Us fighting over toys instead overthrowing our oppressors! Viva la revolution!

This is actually a HOBBY. In case people forgot. This isn't a "make sure everyone gets everything they've ever wanted" event. This is actually a HOBBY. In case people forgot. This isn't a "make sure decade old figures old inflated value so that people can get what they want and feel a sense of superiority by owning them" event. Funny how those kind of statements can go both ways. I used to collect G.I. Joes as a kid, still have my originals. I didn't get every single one, if I wanted some now I'd have to pay the market value for them. If Hasbro just re-released all the originals because I wanted them....how is that OK to do to all the people who have had their own for decades? This is A weird example, considering lines including used to rerelease and/or keep figures in-print for years/ship them future assortments quite often during the run of the lines. (Which sidetone, is actually another interesting element of the Mattel discussion. This line has run so long with the same form factor that it skews things IMO)

Theyāre all on back order except HHH, Warrior and Undertaker. They either hadnāt updated prior to my comment or the other 3 went to back order within the last couple of hours. Now this is making more sense.

This is actually a HOBBY. In case people forgot. This isn't a "make sure decade old figures old inflated value so that people can get what they want and feel a sense of superiority by owning them" event. that's not what I'm talking about or have been talking about AT ALL. holy point missed, Batman. Not once have I said "I should be rewarded in my hobby by having all my old figures be worth hundreds and everyone who didn't get them either pay up or be out! mwah hahahahahahahaha" Not once have I said I feel a sense of superiority because I bought Elite Series 7 DX when they came outAll I have stated from the beginning, is that, to me, personally, I enjoy when the figures I've bought are worth more than what I paid for them. Collectible hobbies by and large are driven by..... *gasp* .....VALUE MOST people who have hobbies involving collecting are doing it because of the worth of the items they are purchasing/owning Toys that are worthless, are not appealing to the majority, hence their worthless-ness. Very few people are out searching for things that don't have or couldn't potentially have a higher value than what they are paying. Imagine coin collectors being like "well I don't want these coins increasing in value so they should just keep printing the same coins!" Value is always going to be subjective, I wouldn't pay $1 for any Pokemon card, because I don't collect or care about them, but that doesn't mean they're all worth $1. It's all the same boat we're in Others have pointed out comics and cards, the same thing applies. There's a reason people pay a premium for a trading card of a rookie that's numbered to /99 versus a base trading card of the same rookie that's produced in the tens of thousands. The attitude of people who are celebrating these vault figures is incredibly bizarre. It's like you're all jumping up on these horses trotting around the course declaring you've somehow conquered this great injustice because you didn't want to pay $100 for a wrestling figure released a decade ago that was in an attire that you like, that others have already had and appreciated the fact that something they bought for their collection is valued much higher than the original cost by the demand.

What point did I miss exactly? You're entire argument, as spelled out in this LITERAL post, is the idea that perceived secondary market value (whether for the purposes of selling or simply the purposes of enjoying the fact that said value has gone up) is an integral part of the hobby. And there certainly seems to be a sense of superiority in the idea that since you bought the ones released when they came out, anyone who wants that look now should have to pay secondary market prices for it. Re: the highlights card portion, that's kind if the point: NO Mattel figure outside of SDCC figures have (to my knowledge and recollection) have ever had a number associated with them. They are ALL, including RSC exclusives, the "base card" in that that's no rarity cap on how many can be produced nor any assurance at any point there won't be another production run. This straw man argument that the people who think the re-realses are bad keep using that figures going up in value is looked at and an "injustice" or bad in concept is nonsense. No one is saying that in a vacuum. What people are saying is that that secondary market value in any non-numbered products case is illusory at best. You want to talk about bizarre attitudes being broken out? It's incredibly blizzard to feel personally attacked and that an injustice has been done to someone as collector because the Elite 7 HBK they bought almost 13 years ago might slide down in value because the attire is being re-released, and that somehow affects their collection.

Most hobbies are driven by interest, nostalgia, or aestheticsā¦ not value. You are being absolutely naĆÆve if you don't believe that value plays an equal and may even be the driving force behind some people's collections. Some people collect solely for value. Just look at the world of art collecting...

Probably going to be an unpopular opinion about the actual line, but Iām kinda of hoping they do the ECW Punk before the SES one.

Admittedly selfishly I would want the ECW first since it's the only time Mattel visited that era and it doesn't seem like one they'd likely visit in any other line all that quickly since besides modern Punks, the money is likely more in either redoing or filling in gaps of the 2011-2013 run, which is close to the SES look.

They need to do AEW Punk. All Out 2022 UE. Punk owns the rights to his name and likeness and attire so thereās no way they couldnt or shouldnāt do it. Kinda sounds ridiculous, right? But thatās the same argument people make for Sting and Owen.

I guess the POOR meme is just evergreen at this point lol. If people wanna collect things that will appreciate in value and never get reprinted, they should look into collecting coins made of precious metals. One thing I've seen repeated over and over again is that part of collecting is "the possibility of collections gaining value", which is true, but in the same token the opposite also has to apply where there's a possibility they decrease in value. It's silly to expect these things to just grow in value exponentially and never be at risk of devaluing. If that were the case people would be buying and burying collectables in their backyard instead of gold bars.
Full disclosure, I only bought a D-Von from this set so I could use his arms and head for a custom Reverend D-Von. I would have grabbed Kane if I didn't already have the DOD one signed and I have a hard one figure per person rule (except for Cody cause he's the goat).

If Legends of Wrestling can use black and pink gear then so can Jazwares. Sting on the other hand is just a case of AEW ing up their own prospects by alienating the only companies that would make it possible for them to do so.

No one said that the value couldnāt possibly decrease. And no one said āgrow exponentially.ā Collecting with value in mind is a risk similar to how something like stocks is a risk. Itās a gamble. Iād rather it lose value on its own maybe due to something like a decline in interest of the line than lose value with rereleases that arenāt necessary and guarantee a decrease in value.

If you want to compare it to stock risk then you can't differentiate the two types of risk. Risk is risk and you assume all of it when making the purchase, that's a part of the game. Buying stock and then complaining about the company making more available for public offering or people shorting it is the type of stuff that would get you laughed at by any "serious stock collector".
