Wrestlemania 2: Yay or Nay!

Good show. I'd rank it the same as WM1 tbh, both were similar quality for me.

Before the era of the WWE Network or the era of downloading or tape trading, as a kid or teenager, if I wanted to feel nostalgic for that era of wrestling then Wrestlemania 2 was the perfect coliseum video to rent to watch.

With that being said, it's not a great event over all. Out of the 3 locations for that Wrestlemania, I felt the Chicago event was my favourite one out of the three.

The battle royal and the tag team title match really sold that for me. The New York show and the LA show were both boring. I didn't care for the boxing match, or to see George Wells on a PPV event. You're telling me that Lanny Poffo couldn't appear to take a DDT from Jake and get pinned??

The LA show did have Hogan vs. Bundy which was great just based on the build up for it. But the other matches there were bad.

I feel that if the entire Wrestlemania 2 show was held at Chicago with Monsoon and Ventura doing the commentary, it would have a higher praise as a favourite to watch.

This is a bit of a rant, but it drives me insane when we get pictures like this that use multiple wrestlers, but they have a wrestler from the wrong era, in the case of that image, Bret Hart! The actual WWE does it all of the time when they make their fake retro shirts, posters and whatever and it drives my OCD brain nuts! Whoever made that image is clearly a huge wrestling fan and there are a million images of an 80s Bret Hart out there so why use a 90s one???

This was the first WM I ever watched, I saw it in 1987 when it was shown on TV here in Australia. I was mezmerised for sure. The tag title match was epic, the Battle Royal was something else, and I was genuinely worried Bundy would beat Hogan for the tag title. I popped when Corporal Kirchner intercepted Blassie's cane and whacked Nikolai... I was scared when Jake the Snake was "murdering" George Wells with a snake. I remember being a bit bored by the boxing match, though.

This was like a year after the event took place, well before internet was a household thing, and well before I discovered wrestling magazines which kind of kept me up to date.

Strangely enough, I think the next WM I saw was IV, as video stores started getting in tapes from around the first Survivor Series onward here. Would be 6 months after the fact, but WM4 became the favourite for a while (was a double VHS rental as well... massive!).

I never saw WM3 until quite a number of years later when I discovered a copy of it from a local Cash Converters (retail chain pawn shop) and it was literally someone's home copy they recorded off the TV (I live in Western Australia and the copy was recorded in Queensland on the other side of the country, it had commercials and everything!).

But anyways, WM2, if you were there for it (or kinda there on delay like I was), was yay for it's time. Rewatches aren't kind, though. It's a bit eh nowadays but we have so much to compare it to. At the time, it definitely was a cool show.

i just found it online one day. i love finding cool images of wrestling stuff/events. hav a bunch saved and got alot more for other manias too

im kinda torn with whoever makes these things using the wrestlers from different era's. sometimes its cool and sometimes i hate it

Good memories of this one. My first WM purchase was WM 5. I saw WM 8 as it was on sky a month or so after that. I then rented WM 1 &3 from my local video shop. Then I bought 4 as it was a double tape. Wrestlemania 2 seemed to be one that it took a good couple of years being a wrestling fan before I got around to watching it.

As an event it’s not the greatest but looking back through nostalgic glasses, it’s a yay for me. Still remember the excitement of eventually getting the tape. Really enjoyed the main event, the boxing match was something different (but in a good way).

My biggest gripe with the event was the clown on commentary that kept saying “uh-oh”.

LOL I was at the one in Chicago and it was on a Monday night! It felt like an elevated house show to me and watching the stuff from NYC and LA was cool. It was funny that everyone was cheering for Piper during the boxing match.

Definitely the tag match was the best of the night.
