25 years ago today was the very 1st Backlash ppv event! they had 11 events from 1999 to 2009 before taking a hiatus until 2016. i havent seen any of the 2016 and on ones, but i did see the early ones and man there were some great matches. heres some of my fav matches from the backalsh cards: 1999- was the best of all them imo. whole card was pretty much kick ass. i enjoyed all of the matches on this card with austin/rock being the best match. 2000- nothing really stood out on this card for me 2001- benoit/angle sub match was awesome & austin/hhh vs brothers of destruction was the best 2002- lesnar detroyin jeff hardy was kinda cool, we had kick ass taker vs austin match & hollywood hogan winning the belt from HHH was SO AWESOME! 2003- lesnar/cena, kane/rvd vs dudleys, jericho/flair/hhh vs booker/nash/micheals, and a match i was so pumped for rock vs goldberg! GREAT CARD! 2004- orton/cactus hard core match & triple threat benoit/micheals/hhh match was the best matches imo 2005- hulk/micheals teaming up was the highlight of this card for me! 2006- big show vs kane & shane/vince vs micheals/god were the best matches for me here! 2007- undertaker vs batista, vince/shane/umaga vs lashley, & & the fatal 4-way cena/edge/orton/micheals were all great matches 2008- micheals vs batista, big show vs khali, & the fatal 4-way hhh/jbl/cena/orton were my fav matches here 2009- jericho vs steamboat was my fav on the card & also loved jeff hardy vs matt hardy match! so what are some of your fav matches or memories from this ppv event over the years? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWE_Backlash

Nothing stood out on Backlash 2000?? really? Holy sh$t thats one of the best cards and best Main Events WWF ever produced. Austins return etc.
99 was great too & I think Backlash 99 was still going under the IYH tag and may have been the last one....Its also the best Austin vs Rock match out there. IMHO way better than WM17 because the ending damages WM17 in a critical manner.

Backlash 2000 is a GOAT. Possibly one of the best PPV's ever imo. It completely destroyed WM16 which was a month previous.
Back in the 2000's all PPV's felt like equals and many overpowered the Big 4 in terms of quality.
There was no such thing as a B-PPV in those days. Every event was special.

Both Backlash 99 and 00 were way better than their prior WrestleManias. Backlash always had a cool set design as well.
Also, I hate and I mean hate the name, WrestleMania Backlash!

I always enjoyed the Backlash PPV events minus a few of them over the years.
1999 had a better Rock vs. Austin match than WM15. The NAO vs. Jarrett/Owen tag match was fun and should have happened at Wrestlemania for the Tag Titles with the Outlaws getting the win and the belts. Triple H vs. X-Pac was good too!
2000 was great cause we got Austin return for one night only at the time. Rock vs. Triple H one on one was better than the four way at WM2000
2001 had a great main event with all the major titles on the line in that tag team match. Benoit vs. Angle is always great to see too!
2002 was a very solid PPV event for the first event after the original draft concept. A lot of fun matches on that show!
2003 was meh to me. I had no want or need to see Goldberg vs. Rock, and that 6 man tag match with Jericho, Triple H and Flair vs. HBK, Nash and Booker was also meh.
2004 had the great hardcore rules match for the IC Title with Orton vs. Foley. And you get a rematch with Benoit/Triple H/HBK for the World Title which was fun to watch as it was in Edmonton and HBK did the job for Benoit, almost like his way of repaying back for the Montreal Screw Job in '97.
2005 and onward gets a bit hazy for me to remember things, mainly cause I either didn't catch the PPV, or watched it just one time and never again.

HBK vs. Cena vs. Edge vs. Orton as the main event, right?? I wanna say I saw that one on an HBK DVD, but never watched the entire PPV event ever.

It marked the official end of the solo-brand PPVs for that era. Outside the big shows, they really exploded the PPV schedule with Raw and SD holding their own events. Backlash '07 onwards, they gave up.

Backlash was consistently one of the better “non-big 4” PPVs IMO, mainly due to being some type of continuation from WM. 1999 gave us a classic with Austin/Rock. 2000 had Rock finally overcoming the McMahon-Helmsley regime and Austin’s brief return. 2001 gave us the 2-Man Power Trip vs The Bros of Destruction and Angle/Benoit. 2002 and 2003 were dips in quality IMO, but we did get to see Hogan win the belt one last time, and Goldberg debut against Rocky. 2004 was great with the triple threat and Orton/Foley. The last few years after this are forgettable IMO.
