We lost Owen 25 years ago - May 23, 1999.
I was 11 at the time and watching the PPV with my brother in his room as was our monthly tradition. Such a surreal night. JR announcing his death on the live broadcast still cuts right through you to this day.
He was only 34. Seemed so much older back then, but as someone who turns 37 in a few weeks it really puts it in perspective just how young Owen was. Rest in peace, King of Harts!

I had a friend that would tell me PPV results the next day on the bus because we were too poor to order the shows. He told me Owen Hart died and I thought it he meant story wise. Thought it was weird since Owen was the Blue Blazer.
Miss the hell out of Owen.

Such an unnecessary and totally avoidable tragedy.

Being from the UK PPV's were always on in the middle of the night so I remember going into school on Monday morning and my classmates telling me that Owen Hart died last night.
This was 1999 and I assumed that it was a storyline. Then I came home and it was on the evening news which made me realise that it was real.
He was the 2nd wrestler who had died while I was a fan, the 1st being Pillman 2 years earlier.

Every year when it's May 23,I always think about Owen. Thought about him all day today. This is one of those moments that you know exactly where you were when it happened. I found out reading about it on wwf.com.Could't believe it and didn't want to believe it. And now 25 years later, unbelievable... Still talking and thinking about him to this day. We're all getting older, but Owen will forever be 34. RIP King of Harts.

Rest in peace, King of Harts! in 25 years, i somehow never realized he was only 34. i find that wild considering i’m 37 now. somewhat related, i also found out yesterday that bray wyatt was younger than me. it’s always kinda weird when you realize you’re older than people you watch on tv

I was 19 at the time. I taped the PPV because it was on at 2am here in Ireland. I came home from work the Monday evening and watched it...to this day I have not watched again and avoid most things about it. It was absolutely f*ckin mental. I still don't understand how that show went ahead....Honestly even listening to Bischoff talk about how he had to be the one to tell Bret is painful stuff, as disconnected as he was from it & as fractured as his relationship with Bret is? you can still tell it cuts him in bits talking about it.
R.I.P. Owen.

Why it wasn’t we may never know. The only thing I can think of why it wasn’t was he wasn’t pronounced dead until he was at the hospital? So it wasn’t considered a fatality yet and just an accident? But I think if he was pronounced dead at the scene then it would have been a crime scene.

He would have been a bigger star had he still been around tbh...lots of great moments would have came in.
