So chyna knew she was leaving it would only be fair to leave the belt with wwf at the time she left

If I recall correctly, it wasn't as much of an absolute squash as her match against Ivory at WrestleMania X7, but Chyna didn't break much of a sweat against Lita either. She was booked so damn strong which I kind of understand although the one-sided structure of the match felt awkward considering it was face versus face. Lita was SUPER over at the time as well.
I have to assume that both sides figured they would be able to come to some kind of contractual agreement sooner than later which is why they kept the belt on her. However, between her steep asking price added to the HHH/Stephanie dilemma it just wasn't meant to be. Such a shame when you think about it that Chyna left when she was at her peak and never stepped foot in a WWF/WWE ring again.

I don’t think they felt Chyna would be gone for good, even with the HHH/Steph dilemma. The WWF clearly still wanted her based on the booking. It just wasn’t meant to be.

I don't think she knew she was leaving at the time.
Apparently her release was sudden. Vince contacted her by phone and told her she no longer had a job.
