It makes sense to do this fig. Prob was originally planned as an Amazon or RSC exclusive but I think the crossover figs of who’s left to do won’t sell as well w collectors. This is long awaited to be done right. I personally would have sacrificed the rig for the earrings, belt and correct boots but it does make it more unique. You’d think that by now for as many classic HBK figs they make and will make they’d just do his boot mold. Still a great fig tho

Any hint as to who it might have been No. Just that it was someone with crossover appeal. Within the past year I remember them throwing out Rocky 3 with Rocky and Thunder Lips 2 pack as a "guess" for this year's exclusive. I could see it being a real consideration based on the cross over appeal. Maybe something with Sly fell through? Just speculation of course. |

That would have been cool -- though Ozzy has had many figures. I'd prefer the Shawn if I were an Elite/Ultimate collector

Ozzy in the salmon suit from Mania 2 would have been incredible…Perhaps in Coliseum Collection packaging with an Ultimate Davey Boy.

Personally I think niche one offs with small production runs like Lauper or Ozzy work best as exclusives. Ali is a bigger name and didn't sell so I don't see the harm in gambling on something with a very specific appeal |

Imo I think it had more to do with 2 alis in 1 box. I think it would've faired better had it had a wrestler attached to him. My thing was, if it was gonna be Ali I would get it if it had a wrestler with him. But because it was just 2 of him. That was a deal breaker for me, wasn't even worth it at the $50 sale price. So long as Mattel doesn't do that again, there might be a chance. |

I think Cyndi Lauper in a limited run would have done well, actually. But not sure if it's so expensive to get her, that a small run would cost Mattel money (and I think that's probably the likely reason it didn't happen)

Ali failed to generate hype because despite being one of the all time greatest athletes in all of sports he was well before most of all of our times. Even the oldest collectors in this community never saw him in his prime. Theres no nostalgia factor. Cyndi, on the other hand, hits that sweet spot for Gen X nostalgia. Pairing her with Captain Lou inside an old CRT TV packaging posed in a scene from the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun video would definitely create buzz and get people outside the wrestling bubble interested. |

I prefer SDCC figures of wrestlers in some form of attire. Whether it be in the ring or from a movie where they starred or did a cameo. Slim Jim Macho is a fine example. No Holds Barred is a fine example.
Everyone has different taste but it's a wrestling figure line

Man i understand there are fans here that want cyndi in the line but theres no way she would sell well. Im not trying to be a d*ck here, I hope they put her out one way or another for those who want her but shes very very niche.
Btw, not sure if you guys know but i think its warsman who did it but someone makes a 3d printed cyndi lauper head and its really well done, i have painted a few for a couple friends of mine. Worth checking out if youre a fan of hers

Im curious if they didn't already released debut Mankind 1996 in the Three Faces Of Foley set if they could have done this figure as a SDCC exclusive. Could have came with a rat, removable shirt, possibly a straightjacket.
Or if they hadn't already made a Hulk Still Rules in the Hulk Hogan three pack, if this could have been a SDCC exclusive.

The upcoming Real American Hulk Hogan would have been a great SDCC Exclusive. Give it the Ultimate 13 torso with special packaging that plays “Real American.” That would have been sweet! |
