Lately a few of my figures that I’ve ordered from ringside have been bad. I ordered the Cody Rhodes top picks elite (red) and it had a croquet leg then I ordered the elite 111 Cody Rhodes and there were scratches and paint stains on the tights and head. Now I ordered Bray Wyatt elite 112 and the foot on the bottom is warped so it doesn’t stand right and leans to the left. I’m not saying this is ringsides fault cuz I know it’s not but there’s still a quality control issue with these figures and for what we’re paying it shouldn’t be this bad

I guess I have been lucky other than a loose head or two on some UE’s, a small yellow paint stain on my Legends Hogan and a stuck hip on the red Top Pick Cody which loosened up after heating it with a hair dryer I haven’t had any real QC issues. I still feel Mattel’s QC is better than Hasbro’s and Jazwares.
The only company that I buy more figures from than Mattel is McFarlane’s DC lines which other than their relaunch of the BtSA where I had 3 of the same Batman have his hip snap off directly out of package I’ve had the least QC issues with them.
I would rank the QC from the companies I collect figures from best to worst as this…

Mattel
Spin Master
Hasbro
Neca
Jazwares
DC Direct which was hands down the worst. Until they rebranded to DC Collectibles they were using a clear brittle plastic for the pins in the figure’s joints that would break from the stress of holding their own weight on the shelves. Every time I would go to dust those shelves I would discover another broken figure or two.
I also buy Mezco One:12 and Mafex figures and have had zero QC issues with Mezco and a few limbs popping of of Mafex (TDK Batman first two versions)

It sucks because it wasn’t always like this there was a time where it got really bad then it got a little better now it’s 50/50

The last 6-7 figures I’ve bought have all had bobble heads. Greatest hits Tugboat, Warlord, IRS, mondsy night wars RVD, both chase and non chase Sandman and the mnw ultimate mankind. Luke from bushwhackers has a fd up foot that causes it not to stand, both bushwhackers have crappy paints apps on the pants.

I had almost every Jakks figure and quit collecting when Mattel took over. I used Mattel as my way to break my addiction haha. I did end up getting a few Mattel figures and loved how well they were put together. The joints weren't loose and the arms weren't falling off like my jakks figures. But the times have changed. Now it's a 50 50 shot that the figure will have a loose waist or floppy chest.

The list of QC issues on figures is just nuts lately.
I've had figures where you breathe on them wrong and parts fall off
I've had figures where parts that are meant to be swapped, can't be, and require alteration to serve their intended purpose
I've had figures where joints are completely frozen out of the package
I've had figures where literally one leg is longer than the other
I've had figures where paint was missing
I've had figures where paint was ADDED
I've... just had a LOT of bad figures in the past couple years.
And that's not even the issue of parts choice or design flaws. These are all just continuous QC issues that have been plaguing the WWE Mattel line for at least the last 3 years.
I don't know what went wrong. I will buy countless fodder bodies from before 2020 or so. They hold up. Some of them have loose joints from play wear, but I've never had one utterly SUCK.
Half of the figures I open now are crap straight out of the box.
I don't know what went wrong.

It's an almost surreal experience to have a figure fall apart as I'm taking it out of the package for the first time. I still have a bunch in my collection and quite a few have glued limbs or are balancing on legs that aren't attached anymore. Sota QC was pretty bad too...a lot of figures breaking right out the package. |

Frozen joints...That has been the biggest issue for me. I'll get a loose ab crunch or a wonky foot here and there, but the frozen joints are ridiculous.

My heart broke when my original Hush Catwoman and Harley Quinn figures finally ended up snapping. I knew it was inevitable but still sucked. Mattel back during the early DCUC days was also a mess. Backwards shoulder joints and hips that would just shear right off. Especially sucked for the hard to find stuff like the DCUC Series 5 wave. |

From the Hush wave my Harley, Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Nightwing all had at least one knee stem break. But Harley’s elbow peg also snapped on the arm holding the mallet. Yep my Harley elbow with the mallet was the first to go. So annoying because for a long time those were the best representation (at least imo) of those characters. My Nightwing and Ivy avoided disaster fortunately. I always was so careful with Catwoman goggles because even moving the head joint on those figures could result in a snapped knee lol |

Quality Control is one of the reasons I always preferred to buy my figures In-Store..... so I could look over the paint apps & sometimes even spot joint-issues (usually at the ankle)....
However, it's getting harder and harder to buy them In-Store due to distribution, and with the new "Sustainable" packaging, you can't even see the feet on some lines.
If they ever move to window-less packaging, I don't think I'll buy them. I really hope that isn't a consideration.
I'm seeing a LOT of other style action figures with Window-less packaging appearing at Ollies..... I'm thinking that means people aren't buying action figures sight-unseen.
Frustrating.

The other Nightwing which I used for my photos or played with when my daughter and I played figures together when she was younger is still in perfect condition. lol I know I am going way off topic here but in regards to that Hush line I think Riddler is one of the most underrated figures out there. Perfection with the pose and articulation (albeit limited articulation but it does what it needs to do). Also Huntress was a great representation of the character and also amongst my favorites from the DC Direct catalog. Huntress was a great figure. Unfortunately she was another that suffered from the knee pin issue. And Gordon’s glasses snapped in half. lol but he was another terrific looking figure. I love looking at this shelf, but it is sad knowing how many of them standing there are glued back together now.  The Hush line was my favorite line the DCD did.
