Where do you land on this? Conversation I was having with my best friend last night. There is a general consensus of greatest in-ring performers names we hear. No need to argue over this list and who you think the best in-ring is, but generally speaking, wrestling fans will typically name: Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, or Bret Hart. Some things that I think make a strong argument for Danielson: -Much longer prime than any of the other three, or anyone else for that matter. WrestleMania XXX and All In 2024 are over 10 years apart and both were within Bryan's prime, even with the 2 year break he took from wrestling in the middle of it.
-When you ask a fan "what's their favorite 'X' match?" for Bret, HBK or Flair -- you generally get the same matches from an 6-8 match list. I think you could ask 15 wrestling fans what their favorite Danielson match is, and get 15 different answers. His versatility and number of incredible matches in my opinion outweigh the others.
-Diversity of resume, can have any style of match and match is opponent flawlessly. We've seen him do any style at a high level and perform incredibly with any dance partner.
-he has continued to evolve for 20+ years all while never going stale and always being a fan favorite -- not that the contenders didn't do these, but the others were not performing at this level for that amount of time. He was already the best technical wrestler in the world in the eyes of many by the time he first reached WWE in 2010 and he continued to just get better and better for over a decade longer.
-This isn't just in-ring: he took to WWE's style of wrestling and developed a character and the ability to tell a story extremely quickly, in a way he wasn't forced to do before WWE. He was much looked at like a Benoit-type where it was all in-ring and no "fluff" but he proved everyone wrong within 2 years of being a WWE on-air talent and creating one of the most iconic characters in the modern era with his "Yes! Yes! Yes!"
-On a short list of the most beloved babyfaces of all time.
What do you say?

You made some great points. π
He can do everything that Flair, Hart and HBK can do, and then some.
His striking game is top notch. Flair had great chops and so did HBK. Bret had good uppercuts and solid punches. Bryan has gnarly chops, gnarly kicks, and gnarly European uppercuts. They are always snug af, and I love that you can always hear them.
He has mastered technical wrestling. His matches with Sabre Jr are just next level stuff.
You are also right about his diversity of matches. Imo he has the best hour long draw ever, the best Iron Man match ever, best technical wrestling match ever, best strap match ever, etc. It's insane. All in the last 3 years.
He has mastered the art of pacing in a match. He knows when to slow a match down and when to speed it up. He can make a match with any opponent seem like a huge deal. Example, Jack Perry at All Out.
He brings out the absolute best in whoever he faces. There's so many examples of wrestlers who have had their best match with Bryan. It's like he wrestles every match like it's his last match.
He is the Goat, for sure. π

I think, in my opinion, in the last two years he has surpassed HBK as the greatest pro wrestler of all time. Itβs crazy to think how much greatness we missed out on from 2014-2018 without him.

He's definitely better than Kevin Nash in every single way. He's even cooler because he can kick people's heads in. Unlike lumbering oaf Nash who could do 4 moves.

Randy Orton recently said there are many GOATs because wrestling has seen so many different characters and styles and touched so many fans and impacted many so differently.
Danielson is an all-time great but he isn't even in my GOAT conversation

He's definitely one of the best of the last 20 years, and that in itself is a great achievement. I find it hard to compare performers from different era's. Great career though.

Like Stephanie said not everyone can be an A, but heβs a B+ (solid), but thatβs OK and he should be proud of that.
Seriously though heβs one of the best of the last 10-15 years (Top 3) for sure. But personally I wouldnβt say heβs a GOAT, because his wrestling style is different from the styles I grew up watching/liking. I appreciate him and feel like he could have fit in with wrestlers of the eraβs I loved. But I am not sure if I would put him in my βTop 10β let alone βTop 5β of those wrestlers.

I dont know how Kevin Nash came into this discussion but while were on the subject of him and his moves, when I had WWF Attitude for PS1, I used the Create a Wrestler to make Kevin Nash and only gave him 6 moves (Power Bomb, Snake Eyes, Sidewalk Slam, Big Boot, Boot Choke, Elbows and Knees in the Corner)
