An upcoming UFC-related video game, possibly called “UFC 2009,” is expected to be release in the first half of 2008, and the game’s designer has released a sneak peak of the title.
As you’ll see in the embedded clip, current UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and former champ Chuck Liddell are featured in the trailer. (Jackson, in fact, is promoting the game in-person at various industry unveilings.)
Back in January, Zuffa LLC, the UFC’s parent company, struck a deal with video game publisher THQ to create a new line of UFC-based video games.
A reported five-year contract gives THQ (which also develops the WWE line of games) exclusive rights to publish the UFC games through the end of 2011 for “all console and portable platforms, as well as wireless devices.“
MMA — and especially UFC — fans have been clamoring for a new video-game title for some time now. In fact, most gamers say a good UFC video game has never been produced, and most credit PlayStation 2’s “Pride FC” as the best one to date. (Not surprisingly, THQ also developed that title.)
Additionally, THQ plans to make the upcoming title an annual release (similar to the successful Madden football line of games), assuring the game and its roster of fighters stay fresh. The first version of the game is expected to feature current and past UFC champions and other notable fighters.
As of now, only Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 have been mentioned as the two compatible consoles for the game
