I took my son to see Coastal Championship Wrestling last night in Coral Springs, FL. Lots of "name" wrestlers for this show, and the venue (large, well-kept community gym) was very full.
MVP made an appearance and cut a promo telling fans he got his start there (as Antonio Banks... and I believe I saw one of his very first matches there in 2001) and telling them to keep supporting the indy feds. He also gave the Ballin' elbow to one of the local heel managers, which got a monster pop.
Jimmy Snuka wrestled a tag match and won with a modified (2nd turnbuckle, less leaping, more falling) superfly splash. Deuce was also there (unadvertised) and they brought him to the ring for an unscheduled heel promo. Domino may have been there too, since the ring announcer/company owner introduced "Deuce and Domino" and seemed confused when Deuce was the only guy to come out.
One of the main events was Dustin Rhodes (CCW's heavyweight champ) vs. Gangrel, who was mobbed with autograph seekers before the show started. I guess the 15th Anniversary Raw reminded people who he was. I saw a couple of people getting MOC Gangrel Jakks figures autographed.
The Patriot (Tom Brandi) also worked a 6-man tag, and former ECW wrestlers Pablo Marquez, "Extreme Shah" Hack Myers, and Anthony Michaels (who was the short-lived Snot Dudley) worked the show in different matches.
All in all, we had a lot of fun. It was my first indy show in a long time, but it was worth it. Especially for the WWE cameos.
