Pro-Wrestling NOAH ~ Summer Navigation '07 July 15, 2007 Nippon Budokan Hall 14,600 Fans (Super No Vacancy) 1. Davey Richards, Thoruf & Akihiko Ito beat Masao Inoue, Tsutomu Hirayanagi & Ippei Ota (11:13) when Richards pinned Hirayanagi after the DR Driver. 2. Takuma Sano & Junji Izumida beat Tamon Honda & Tsuyoshi Kikuchi (7:01) when Sano pinned Kikuchi after a Northern Lights Bomb. 3. Yoshinari Ogawa & Shuhei Taniguchi beat Yoshinobu Kanemaru & Atsushi Aoki (13:10) when Taniguchi pinned Aoki with a German Suplex hold. 4. Takeshi Morishima, Mohammed Yone & Go Shiozaki beat Nigel McGuinness, Bryan Danielson & Rocky Romero (11:15) when Yone pinned Romero after the Kinniku Buster. 5. Yoshihiro Takayama & Takashi Sugiura beat Akitoshi Saito & Makoto Hashi (13:00) when Sugiura pinned Hashi after the Olympic Slam. 6. NTV Cup League Match: KENTA & Taiji Ishimori [7] beat Naomichi Marufuji & Kota Ibushi [6] (21:43) when KENTA pinned Ibushi after the go 2 sleep. 7. NTV Cup League Match: Kotaro Suzuki & Ricky Marvin [6] vs. Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe [6] (30:00) went to a time limit draw. * KENTA & Taiji Ishimori win the NTV Cup. 8. GHC Tag Team Titles: Jun Akiyama & Takeshi Rikio © beat Kentaro Shiga & Kishin Kawabata (27:11) when Rikio pinned Kawabata in their V3 defense. 9. GHC Heavyweight Title: Mitsuharu Misawa © pinned Akira Taue (16:44) with a modified Emerald Frozen in his V4 defense.
Looks like a hit-or-miss show. I really want to see the NTV matches, Misawa/Taue, and match 4, but still... 27 minutes of Kawabata and Shiga is scary stuff.
I'm sure at least one of the two NTV matches from this card will hit my MOTY list at one point though, they look godly.

I have no problem with Misawa retaining...dude is arguably the best wrestler of all time, and everyone is complaining about his reign when he had 3 defenses: one against Sano which wasn't bad at all, one against Morishima that was ed up by an injury, and one against Bison Smith that sucked because it was against Bison Smith. This one can not be that bad, it's 16 minutes, and it's Misawa vs. Taue. And still, Misawa is drawing more fans than Maru did in his first defense. So I really don't see a problem with all of this. His matches aren't terribly bad like everyone makes them out to be.

Mainly because whoever's holding that belt right now's basically handing it to Jesus Christ himself Kenta Kobashi, and I wanna see Taue/Kobashi more than Misawa/Kobashi.

Wow, kind of anticlimatic end to the NTV Cup it seems. I thought it would come down to the final match where the winners would jump ahead. I mean, I guess if the Briscoes had won their match they would've won it, but did people think that they would put the Briscoes over twice in a year?
Misawa is just beyond his prime. Him having the GHC title is obviously saying "I don't have any other choice until Kobashi is healthy". Hopefully that's in the next six months or so.

There is potential for a Takayama reign in-between the Misawa/Kobashi match...but beyond Takayama, Nate's right, the choices are limited. I guess you could potentially put the belt back on Akiyama if he ended his tag title reign earlier...but he just held it before Maru.
But I think that is NOAH's biggest problem right now: they do not elevate younger talent. Reasonably, Go Shiosaki, Takashi Sugiura, Takeshi Morishima, KENTA, and Naomichi Marufuji all could potentially be legitimate GHC Heavyweight Title contenders. Even the Jr.'s have gotten bigger (has anyone seen how much bigger Maru is?) and KENTA has a great offense for a Jr. going to a heavyweight division. And Takashi Sugiura is the most ripped Jr. I've ever seen. So right there are 5 contenders, but none of them (except maybeee Morishima) could realistically hold the belt at this point.

I'm all for the horse-faced bastard getting the belt. Takayama is the man. Mori isn't exactly 'GHC worthy' now, honestly. I'd rather see Go or Sugiura go for the belt than him. Maru's title reign I guess was supposed to be the second coming of Ogawa's OMG SHOCK title reign, it just kinda backfired.

Go is practically a whipping boy. They should have used Sugiura's momentum after the 4/28 COMING OUT PARTY for him as a heavyweight. But nope. He jobbed to ing KENTARO SHIGA.

I'd like someone from outside NOAH to win the title, but that'll never happen.
