When I sit and think about all the wrestlers around the indy scene, I think that they can't get any better than this.. The athletic ability and skill of all the main stream independant wrestlers today is incredible.
I don't know what more to say, but when watching Tape after tape of indy wrestling it doesn't seem like the skill level can get any better than it is right now.
Anyone agree?

Definitely not. Wrestling is in a major downward spiral. How? ROH is going strong, if not stronger than before. They're even making a trip to the west coast. They run shows in the UK and Japan. PWG puts on great shows with really great workers. They run shows in Europe too. IWA-MS seems to be helping build stars like Chuck Taylor that will probably wind up in ROH. Indy wrestling is still going strong. I dont think it's at it's peak, I think because we're all used to the talent that's around right now we cant see knew guys coming in. But I think it'll always be a revolving door of talent. I havent seen anything yet of Lance Storms students, he speaks highly of a few, so we'll see. I dont think wrestling is in a downward spiral. The steroid/drug use will pass. Look at the NFL and MLB. They're having the same steroid problem, they're still around. Pro wrestling has a huge community and will survive.

Pro Wrestling as a whole has been on a downfall for quite a while. I think the 90s it peaked. Many of our favorite stars have come and gone. Sadly too many are gone for good. The whole steriods subject has been swept under the rug for way too long. Now its gone mainstream and former wrestlers are willing to come forward to let out the dark history. Wrestling might not be able to bounce back from all the allegations. Performance wise on the independent level, is phenomenal.
We must come to realize that MMA is taking over. Like boxing was in the 80's and early 90's, and pro wrestling in the same time, both are dieing. MMA has been on a tremendous upswing in the past 5 or so years. 7-8 years ago we could find an abundance of pro wrestling shows on TV. Back when we had WCW, ECW, WWF, and smaller groups that landed TV deals like WWA, WOW, XWF and others. Now we find the MMA shows over saturating the market. I don't foresee pro wrestling hitting the peak it had in the late 90s.

You listed a bunch of indy feds. The question was posed as "wrestling".....not just indy wrestling. Besides, Indy wrestling is missing a lot of the biggest stars they have. Punk, Joe, Cabanna, etc. are all missing or very scarce. The steroid issue is only a minor problem right now. Creative is extremely bad. The E cant book anything right. TNA is watching old WCW tapes. ROH might be growing, but they are lacking some major star power. And the biggest name they have is being buried....IE Chris Hero. Danielson is back...but he cant carry the company. Morishima is a beast in the ring, however is he cant carry a company on a national scale......the same scale that ROH is trying to head for......neither can Danielson. IWA:MS and Chikara are both going strong. CZW is all but dead. PWG is pretty status quo. Other than BOLA.....they really havent put on a superior show in quite awhile.

half the people that have replied didn't read the question at hand...
he asked about the skill level....never said a word about popularity
i'm guessing people saw the title and just responded to that...
but o well...

Wrestling wise, it might be at it's peak but besides that, I'd say no. The last peak, I think was the Attitude Era.

Definitely not. Wrestling is in a major downward spiral. Totally agree with you on that one. Sure the Wrestling today is WAY better than what It was 5-10 Years ago but Its just the same old same old now, Lets compare lets say the Hurricanrana around 10 Years ago people would go Spastic for the Move people would say " HOLY Sh*t! thats an Awesome move! " and You fast forward to today and you see Heaps of wrestlers doing the move like 10 Times in the match, All the great moves are being done too much and We've basically seen everything, Lets compare another thing, When Mankind fell off the Cell onto the Announcers table and EVERYONE was talking about it for Weeks, and Now it seems that Every PPV or Show I see someone taking a Big Bump, " Wow, Its not like I've seen that before.... " Thats the Problem with wrestling today, We've seen everything that can be done really, all that we have to rely on is Good Storylines which most Fed's fail at Delivering, Wrestling is on a Huge slump right now and I really think Wrestling will go back to the Hardcore fans again, the Occasional Casual fan will see it but most will probably Forget about it.

The skill level is phenominal, but can only get better. Look at the difference between 2002 and now - indy wrestling is MUCH better, skill-wise. I cannot wait to see what it will be like in another 5 years. As a whole, wrestling is on a downward spiral. The average person looks at WWE as a circus sideshow, and having a giant and a midget as current champions does not help that. In about 3 years, when the steroids controversy is completely forgotten about, wrestling will probably become (slightly) more popular. The average person will then see TNA, but their booking is so confusing and lacks logic so much that they won't have the patience that the hardcore fans have and will stop watching. I also disagree with the opinion that MMA will hurt wrestling. Both of them will always have niche hardcore audiences that will always be there. I see it as this. If you're a hardcore fan, wrestling rules right now. Despite all the steroid controversy, the WWE is booking good stuff and has improved tenfold since 06. TNA has potential, they just need to start using it. Japan and ROH are putting out some amazing stuff and PWG and IWA:MS are getting bigger and bigger. However, to a casual person, wrestling looks like a ing joke and although, with time, it will become more popular, it will never reach the heights of the Attitude Era.
