I've been a wrestling fan all my life, first a WWF fan as a child up to about 2001 when i was 12/13 and put off wrestling because of the crappy Invasion angle. Then i returned to wrestling thanks to the new face of wrestling TNA. Been a fan from about 2005 and always watch it. It's not brilliant but it's good weekly wrestling.
However, i can finally say i've been fully converted from the mainstream 'wrasslin to Ring Of Honor.
I knew about it before but never really sat and watched it. I was also a fan of WSX (loved the damn thing) so i knew a few names who competed in Ring of Honor. I've also met Bryan Danielson and obviously i know about Nigel McGuiness. Also, i'm a big fan of PAC, saw him years ago when he was just starting out. With him starting in ROH i felt i better watch it.
I'm still a bit of a noob on it i guess, so bear with me. So far i've watched the Respect is Earned PPV (and the extra matches) and i'm an hour into watching ROH Domination 9th June show. I just love it, every bit of it.
The whole no politics, just damn good wrestling is brilliant. I'm sick of the politics and power struggles, and who won't put over who. I just want to see damn fine wrestling y'know.
Already i have my favourites. Nigel McGuiness obviously is awesome, a good british wrestler. Hopefully he can get the World title soon. I'm indifferent about Takeshi Morishima, just dunno, seems bland. But i can totally see why he has the belt, dominant, monster type. Always draws well.
As previously mentioned i'm already a Bryan Danielson fan having seen him live (and put over a small town wrestler in amazing fashion in front of about 100 people!). KENTA was amazing on the Respect Is Earned show and I know he's not a regular but he is just brilliant, my type of wrestler.
I do like the singles competitors like Claudio Castagnoli (sp?), Matt Sydal (hope he doesn't go to WWE, they'll ruin him), Davey Richards, Jack Evans and Delirious. However my passion in wrestling has always been Tag Teams.
It's weird even though ROH doesn't have regular tag teams they still ALWAYS put on awesome tag matches. Oh and the Briscoes, just the best damn team around, they really are. They cannot do a poor match. They arn't my favourite team though, that spot it left for El Generico and Kevin Steen! Both work so good as a team. Generico is just brillaint (OLE!) and Steen is just the heel i like. Cocky, in your face, but is a damn fine wrestler.
I just watched El Generico/Kevin Steen [vs] Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw and it was amazing. I'd never seen Mike or Jigsaw before and i don't think they're a regular team but that match was amazing and it was the undercard!!!
So yeah, that shows you what i like, who i like and how i've embraced ROH. I hope all you ROH fans will let me join in the debates properly and let the fanbase of ROH grow!
Oh and another thing. I've said what i've seen. I've also seen just single matches of Nigel [vs] Takeshi from Japan and Briscoes [vs] MCMG. Is there any matches you'd recommend that I should watch? Events? Single matches? I do prefer the current Ring of Honor over the older stuff, so more recent stuff is what i'd like to see.
