I recently got into ROH during the summer of 2007. Meaning I was unfamiliar with everything that happened prior. I missed out on the Noble, Kendrick, London, Homicide, Joe, Punk...and I suppose Danielson's and Arie's world title eras. Although I missed all these huge points and moments for ROH. I would occassionaly get my hands on past events to familiarize myself with the history of ROH, like the event where CZW invaded and Punk the final chapter. I got to watch Sydal's last match and I got to watch Colt Cabana's last match. The atmosphere, the crowd, and the moments were unbelievable for when a ROH star was leaving and headed to the 'E'. You'll never have that feeling in the WWE. I guess what I'm trying to say is, ROH creates moments and opportunities that are impossible to re-create in any other atmosphere.
You don't get the same type of atmosphere at TNA. TNA shouldn't even be in the same room with ROH because of what they are doing to the talent. WWE you have a 16,000 arena where very seldomly you have a crowd who is in unison. I give NYC and Toronto the benefit of the doubt since they 'get it'
Moments create in ROH can't be duplicated. I say this now because as I shuffle through my iTunes songs remind me of huge moments in ROH history. The song Miseria Cantare: The Beginning starts playing, by AFI, and INSTANTLY it reminded me of Punk's last match in ROH versus Colt in his home city. I remember the 5 minutes it played for before he came out. I remember the crowd going insane. I remember the tears in that mans eyes. The raw emotion of the crowd. The love, the feeling, the memory.
Trash ROH for their over use of spots and "cheap" thrills, but ever since I found ROH it's regenerated my love for wrestling. I honestly meet people at WWE shows and feel bad that this is what they've come to accept as wrestling. They never experience some of the greatest in ring performances or ever had that feeling of solidarity with a crowd. So I guess this post was mainly about praising the community feeling whenever you buy a ticket and sit down in front of a ROH ring and get ready to watch the best ing wrestling in the world for two or three hours. WWE fans have no idea what they are missing.
