Just heard a great interview with Cary Silkin on betweentheropes.com. Despite the opinion of many on this board it seems they are infact quite open to being on Television if the right deal comes along. He seemed to indicate they had talked to some networks about this already. Check out the interview it's pretty cool. They had one a few weeks ago with Gabe too.

I don't know if I see them getting a TV deal, or for that matter, it doing them any good in mass quality.
But you know I'd watch it, and appreciate the fact there's more wrestling on free television to dive into.

ROH goes TV......I say they are out of business within the year. They cant support a television show. They dont produce television accepted wrestling. If TNA can only get a 1.2 and 1.5s max on Spike TV with big names like Christian, Angle, Sting, etc. How does ROH expect to draw those numbers (which is below mediocre) or better when their show is headlined by Nigel, Hero, Danielson, etc.
Yes, people from this board will tune in. And yes, we will all throughly enjoy it. We'll praise it. We'll scream cmon Vince, beat that. And yet, when they add all of us up and all of the ROH forums and all of CZWfans and Chikarafans and DVDVR, etc. it will still score but .25 rating and be cancelled 5 episodes in. Lets put it this way.......WSX will have scored better ratings than ROH can.

I think it depends on how they are using the TV. Is it to get as much exposure as WWE or even TNA probably not. But if they can produce it cheaply and it helps them sell more DVD's and keeps the PPV product alive it may be worth it. I think they'd do well on a small network that pushes extreme sports and MMA things like that. We'll have to wait and see, it's a long shot, but they are willing to take some risks in ROH whether they pan out or not. I'm confident they won't stake the whole company on it. They seem to be smarter than that.

Half the people dont get Versus and the other half dont know what it is. I would love to sit and watch ROH in my own home. Chris Hero on my TV would rule. But it just isnt gonna happen. And if it does......its a very bad, bad decision.

It would require ROH actually put some money into their production... maybe find cameramen who aren't horrible.
The way to work it would be to use the show as a promotional tool for the DVDs/PPVs. Which means showing clipped matches, with the idea you can get the show uncut if you buy the PPV. See the way ECW used to run Hardcore TV.
I don't know if going to a pure cable channel would be the right move. To me, syndication would be much better, getting into markets where they have a fanbase and focusing there initially.

The ROH product is not made for tv. It just isn't. People don't watch wrestling other than something put out by the WWE.

ROH were on TV back in 2003 or 2004 but it was just on local TV in the Philly area and it didn't last very long. I never saw it but i'm pretty sure they did the same thing I did with our JCW TV show. Break the live shows down and put 2-3 matches on TV with promos, interviews, or backstage footage to fill out the show.

Yeah, I dont see it happening, WSX failed, why wouldnt ROH.
and as Surf's Up said about their production, oh come on man, I went to ROH with a group of local, somewhat pretty well known wrestlers, and they all thought the four lighting rig setup, was great. the owner of IPW is always talking about when he makes enough money, his goal is to have a lighting setup like Ring of Honor.

ROH does not produce wrestling that appeals to casual fans nor do they have names that do. I'm a ROH fan but if they get on TV everyone will be eating their words for calling it "the next ECW" when it fails after 5 shows, assuming it makes it that far. The lighting system makes any indy feel a lot more special. ROH isn't the only one with a lighting system though. JAPW & PWG also have them. The lighting system makes the company feel special and not like some fly by night indy.

I go both ways with this, Showstopper makes some excellent points, but one of the reasons it wouldn't sell so well because of the lack of exposure it has right now.
It's pretty much a east coast promotion, nobody on the west really has heard of it unless your a die hard wrestling fan.
Either they should start touring the west and/or put up a low budget TV show to see if you can't stimulate growth.
It's worth the risk if you ask me especially if they want to keep building their promotion. It's business, you have to take risks, otherwise you'll be bringing in the same dough you always have been.

I hope they don't get a tv deal because they'll either go under like WSX or be forced to change thier product to be more entertainment than sport like TNA.

I think if they are "forced" to do anything of that nature they just won't make the deal. From the interviews I've heard from Cary and Gabe they are looking at every opportunity to grow, but know why their current product is popular. Why would they change that for a TV deal? They won't they know their limits and they seem to be very smart with their money.

Most people who want it on TV only want it on TV because they don't wanna buy the DVD's but they don't think about how bad it'll hurt the company. No way will ROH be successful on TV.
