Yeah, i sort of need some help, i'm in a bit of wrestling turmoil, if you can call it that.
Basically, recently i've just became very dis-heartened with wrestling. Thing is i love wrestling and have done by whole life. It's just weird. I maybe need something to just get my passion for wrestling re-ignited.
Firstly i was a WWE fan as a youngster and all through the attitude era. Though in the past 4 year or so just grown really tired of WWE, all the politics and crap really. This is where i sort of became alot more involved in how wrestling works etc from going on forums and what not. I still read news about it and i watch the odd event (Rumble) and i'll probably watch Wrestlemania.
From then i became a fan of TNA. I was re-inspired with the X Division and the great Tag Team wrestling. I was even more for TNA when Christian Cage crossed over. After Bound For Glory 06 though my favourite TNA started to go a bit awry. Over the next 6 months i still watched, just not as intently as before. There was some good bits, and then some not so good at all. I sort of stopped watching TNA after Joe lost the Winners Takes All at Hard Justice. Just couldn't stand it no more. Thing is i look at TNA worse than at WWE. It's just laughable.
Then came the saviour. ROH. With the PPV i watched the first out of curiousity and fell in love with ROH. The tag team match at Respect Is Earned blew me away. I'm a big fan of the Briscoes now, they're exactly what i want to see in a Tag Team, just excellent. I thought Driven was good. Then came Man Up. Now that was plain awesome. I adore Steenerico and the Ladder War was out of this world. I've even gone as far as to buy the DVDs of the first three PPV events.
I saw a few of the live events and thought they were great, up to just after Nigel won the belt. Then for me ROH got really stale and declined so rapidly it shocked me. Undeniable was a very good PPV and Rising Above (which i'm watching now, paused to make this post, take that for what it's worth) is alright. There is just loads of things which i think are tipified by the results/card of the recent PPV tapings. I won't spoil anything for anybody, but it's just awful. Someone is the main event who shouldn't be, matches are happening that make no sense.
Think of it from someone who ONLY watches the PPVs. It makes no sense at all, absolutely none at all. I always saw ROH and Gabe as booking legends. They knew exactly what to do, yet they've made so many mistakes. Steenerico should of won the Tag Titles. Age of Fall could of been brilliant yet it's been cruely wasted (Joey Matthews? C'mon). Nigel's character has been ruined. The Tag Titles have been thrown around randomly. It's just a mess.
Now i'm at the point where i don't really know what to do. I guess i'm looking for some help maybe as to something else, alternatives, something different. I love tag team and fast paced wrestling if that helps.
I don't want people to reply wanting arguments on why i think this way and why you don't. I just want some advice from other people, maybe people who do feel the same way, i don't know. I also apologise for the essay-like post. I just felt i had to get it all out y'know.

I agree that ROH has got very stale. They run shows fairly close to me though I continue to attend. The product is very stale right now though and the booking is going in circles. It's really showing that Gabe doesn't know what to do next now that he's ending factions left and right as well as taking a lot of booking ideas from the message board.
Right now the only promotion that always entertains me is JAPW. Most people here hate it though for whatever reason.

You want entertainment? Excellent wrestling? Storylines that make sense? Wacky humor? Watch Chikara. If you aint watching Chikara....you aint watching whats so great about professional wrestling.

Yeah the booking is definately going in circles. I don't understand the sudden rise of Tyler Black. True i'm sure he's a brilliant wrestler. But i just don't understand how sudden he is. He's rose over Jimmy Jacobs who is meant to be the leader of Age of the Fall. Doesn't make sense. One minute he's pushing Erick Stevens, next minute he's not. Sometimes ROH's random booking is worse than TNA's and that's saying something.
JAPW, hmm. I dunno. I've never really been into Japanese wrestling, although i do like Marifuji and KENTA when they are in ROH.
Y'know i've always wanted to see it. I really have. I've seen clips of it and thought it was brilliant. But how do i go about watching it? Where can i see it?

i hear you man. i still like wrestling but i feel like i'm forcing myself to watch it sometimes or whatever.
like ill throw on WWE and shit, i still enjoy it but i dont make it a priority to watch the full episode or whatever anymore.
The last roh show i went to (12/1) felt like it dragged on in a way, but i could have been i just wanted to get to my boys party after the show.
i pretty much never watch tna anymore, im a huge fan of some of the guys on there but it's just not a priority to watch it.
for wrestling i seem to spend more time with figures now a days than actual watching it. who knows, i still like wrestling though but i feel you no homo.

Or you can goto a local Best Buy and purchase one there. It will help get you accalmated with the product. Also JAPW is not Japanese wrestling. It stands for Jersey All Pro Wrestling. |

I like how this thread became a chance for everyone to advertise their favorite promotions. Thinking JAPW stood for some Japanese company is funny. I will plug PWU. You haven't seen bad wrestling until you have seen some of the crapthey do. It makes everyone else look just a little better.

But downloading matches is illegal, as it is copyrighted material.  |

They created stars like Homicide, Low Ki & Jay Lethal who they all still use to this day. If you want to check it out go to youtube and search JAPW. There is plenty of MV's, ruff cut episodes & World Wide episodes up there that you can check out to see if you like the product. However if you don't plan to buy DVD's to indy promotions then there isn't much out there. Indy companys make money off of DVD sales. Youtube is your best bet to check out the suggested promotions and see what you like. Then go from there. If you like it, buy the DVD's. |

I like IWA:MS, even though alot of people crap on it.
Mixes of alot of national talent, with alot of up and coming talent. Also, it has a few deathmatches per show usually to satisy blood marks. But they really do bring in talent from all over, to wrestle each other, when normally, you would never see them face off. Atleast some of the time. But alot of people hate their owner, Ian Rotten.
Once you've seen really bad Indy shows, it wasy to like alot of stuff.
But at the moment, CHIKARA is easily my favorite promotion. So, yeah, id pick their BEST OF CHIKARA dvd for ten bucks from any number of websites.

Find 20 dollars and go to Smart Mark Video and get the CHIKARA Best of 2007 DVD. It's 22 matches on 3 discs and it's only 20 dollars. I've always enjoyed small amounts of the company, but I've just now started getting into the company for real. That DVD set is just about the best purchase I've ever made as a wrestling fan. I was honestly not expecting something as good as what I got with those three discs. As far as Tyler Black... holy hell, are people just ing dense? He hasn't all of a sudden risen over Jimmy Jacobs and become some huge main event star. He won a four way match out of nowhere and then put up a hell of a fight against the World Champion. That doesn't mean he is now going to be squashing the rest of the roster and is all of a sudden the top star of the company. being afraid to give spoilers. And sorry if you didn't want people to question your vague comments. People are going to be curious as to what has made you feel how you do. Give me some examples of things that make no sense at all. And explain how Nigel's character has been ruined? The crowd turned on him and he started to go with it. Then Gabe decided to turn him into a full blown heel, and it's AWESOME. Nigel plays a fantastic heel. Steen is right now getting a big push. This is going to be his year, and he's going to take Generico with him. |
