i started playing real guitar after countless hours of guitar hero...im pretty good at it so far and im starting a band with my friends soon...
so how did you guys start playing guitar? or any other instrument?

I started years ago basically  ing around because I thought it would be fun... now I'm in a band as a singer, and I'm trying to learn instruments to contribute more musically. |

I was standing in the rain. I had my head hung low. I was unable to get a ticket because it was a sold out show. I heard the crowd roaring and I could picture the scene in my head. I stuck my head to a nearby wall and like a distant scream I heard one guitar. It just blew me away. The very next day I bought a beat up six string from a second hand store.

i had always felt compelled by the singer-songwriter craft even from a young age...i remember i was listening to bob dylan a lot in grade 7 and i wanted to write songs. my brother and sister had both learned piano throughout their childhood so i figured i should learn something too.

I started playing because all three of my cousins did and two years later, I'm better than all of them. Sounds big headed but they all made fun of me when I started (ass holes)

Basically because i wanted to start playing an instrument, and because i want to fill a musical void in the combining of the styles of Ricky Wilson/Dave Mustaine/Eugene Hutz.
Oh and also because my dad was basically pressuring me into getting one, he's a guitar obsessive and so eventually i decided it would be a good idea.
I would rather play music in a band than have a real job anyway.

About 14 years ago, (man that seems like such a long time.......wait it is) Anyhow I had tried piano and trumpet and didn't like them. I loved that thick heavy distorted guitar and always wanted to play and just set my mind to it. Got a classical guitar, took some lessons, bought an electric guitar and learned some power chords and that was it. I don't get to play as much as I used to, but I still love it. It's just a great escape.
