I am looking into buying an iPhone, most likely an unlocked one so I can keep my service carrier. I was wondering if anyone has an iPhone, unlocked or not, just to get some ideas about pros and cons of it. Thanks.

A few people I know have the iphone.
Pros: really nice, big screen, easy to use, wi-fi
Cons: having to unlock it is a pain in the ass, plus if you unlock it, you can't update the firmware versions for the phone. If you do, Apple will RELOCK your iphone and you can't use it no more. Dumb move by apple to stick with just AT&T.

Yeah it sucks you can't use the iPhone until you set it up with AT&T. But speaking as some one with one, it's a great investment so long as you're happy with the phone carrier you're using.
I love using the internet, at one point you may see sporadic, and abrupt closing of features, but it can be figured out. Internet generally is a god send as it's unlimited and so is email, no need to text with email available. That's about the only thing that differs in the plans is text.
iPhone generally gets good service, but I've yet to use it out of state. I really don't have any complaints unless you consider the fact you can't watch movies without converting them so some sites just won't work due to a lack of downloading the appropriate players.
I say it's a great investment, the new age Blackberry if you will.
Not an alternative to a computer, but a great extension away from one. I never put mine down unless it's in need of a good charging. That's really the only other complaint... but it's to be expected with so much use during the day on the internet or music.

I am writing from Canada so up here you can only have an unlocked one for now. My buddy has one and constantly has problems with it that he says are due to it being unlocked and not through AT&T. For the cost of the phone, I would recommend getting it through AT&T or whatever other couriers carry them now.

i got one, its really fun. you can pretty much do anything on the internet on it as you can on a computer, and has a lot of cool features. the iPod in it has an awesome interface, like an iPod Touch. i totally reccomend it.

Sh*tty services need nice phones to bring customers in. Ex. iPhone, Sidekick, etc.

Codesters has one! I've used one before, and they're pretty cool. The only problem I had was getting spotty Internet service. Like, if I moved a few feet, the connection would get better/worse. Weird. But, I don't know if that applies to all IPhones.

Extremely over rated in my opinion. I use a Moto Q for my web browsing and email on the go and does what it needs to do.

It's a pretty nice phone. I got mine unlocked from a buddy as I'm in Canada, and unlocking it isn't that hard. It took me about half an hour to unlock it, and some things I had to install took like 15 minutes out of that. It has a big touch screen which is very, very, friendly and the wifi is a great addition. However I don't like the size of it, it's pretty big. If you're looking for a phone similar, check out the Samsung Croix (F700) It's pretty much the same as the iPhone, except there's no wifi and there is a full QWERTY keyboard when it's slid open. For the price you'll be paying for a unlocked iPhone, it's also worth a look at the Nokia N series, the N95 in particular. I prefer small phones though, I had the Samsung U600 and now the Samsung P520 Armani, if you like small phones packed with features, check out Samsung and their Ultra series. If you need info on how to unlock your iPhone quickly, PM me, but I can only do version 1.1.2

I've used my friends, he got one the day it came out because he's an Apple fanatic. It was fun to play with but nothing I would ever spend my money on, I simply don't need what it has to offer, I'm just fine with my iPod and my phone separately. Not to mention the phone I have has an MP3 player, anyway.
My friend, even being the Apple freak that he is, got rid of his a couple of months ago. He said the service was terrible and the features weren't enough for the ridiculous price.
