I'm not a traveler at all. I am planning a trip to California over the Summer, and I was told that I needed a passport to travel there. Is this true? I know I have plenty of time to get one, but I want to be well prepared for the trip.
Does anyone also know how much flight tickets and hotel fare will be in California? I have no idea what the prices are like there.

Passports to fly in the USA? you will not need one unless you are not really in NJ. For flight tickets and hotel fare i would call your airport to find out a price and google California hotels and if you find one you like call them and ask how much is it to stay.

As long as you are in the Unitede States, you do not need a passport. Passports cost about a $100, but can take months to get. If you're lucky, and fly at the right time, you can find a flight for 2-300, but odds are it will be double that. Hotels will just range depending on where you stay. Could be $100 a night, could be a lot more.

This reminds me of that one Deal or No Deal episode.

If you book through a travel site like travelocity.com you can have your hotel and flight together and it is much less expensive. Sometimes, it's almost like getting the hotel for free. I have been a customer of their's for years.

Well I really haven't went anywhere besides New York, and haven't really flew anywhere. Not sure how to go about these things.

Find whoever told you that you need a passport to fly from New Jersey to California...and punch them in the face.
California may have an Austrian Governor and a heavy concentration of Mexicans, but it's still not a foreign country.

I don't know if it's funnier that someone would say you've got to have a passport to get from NJ to CA or that you believed it. Either way, it made me lol.

Not know. In British, if you flying to Scotland or Northern Ireland, you won't need passport, but maybe will need just something like as birth cerf, driver license or so. Just to show who real you are, it is all. But no doubt about USA's rules. Sorry.
