Hi, me and my 3 friends are looking to start a retail Monster Energy Beverage store for over the summer. We already buy it wholesale for ourselves but we want to start to sell it [legally]. Can anyone tell us how to get started into selling it legally in my town? There is 3 of us, ages 16-16 and 18, so our friend whos 18 is gonna handle the legal stuff and such. We already have a building for it too. We are going to sell merch [shirts, hats, stickers] and the actual drinks. Thanks.

Good luck losing buckets of money We get our cans for $1.30 each, and since there is a low supply in our town, people will pay $2-$2.25 or so per can, which gives us a bit of profit, and we don't lose money.

I never understood why kids needed to drink Monster Energy drinks.
What are yall doing that you have to drink a Monster Energy drink almost everyday

The merchandise of a drink is gonna cost you. Not the drink itself. No one wears drink merchandise unless they absolutely love the drink, or get it for free.
I'd look into selling other things before i look into opening a retail store.
First thing you need to do is have the three of you get together and work on a business plan.
I got some decent plans off google searches. I pretty much copied a random layout and i was left with a great looking, very informative business plan.
I suggest that be your first step.
But selling merchandise for a drink? Not gonna make money. Sell other things.
globalsources.com have a load of random and popular stuff that you can buy wholesale from them.
Honestly... so far, your idea for a retail store sucks. Not being a prick. Just telling you straight out.
Pick something more popular, and incorporate your drinks into that.

It will do business, I can pretty much guarantee. We are going to sell the cases, BFCs, singles, coffee, shirts/hats, stickers, etc.

Do yourself a favor and can it? If you are buying at 1.30 a can and you can sell at even $2.30 a can, you are making a dollar profit. Lets say you sell 1000 cans a month. Thats a $1000 in profit. Dont forget you have to pay rent on the building, advertising, electric, etc. You will most certainly be taking a loss. And even if you said you could sell 1000 cans without advertising and you had zero over head. You would make squat between the 3 of you. $300 and change is barely anything. Not to mention you will have startup costs with licensing in your state, federal taxes, K1s that will have to be issued, someone will be responsible for your accounting and if your state requires, you may have to have a W2 employee. Which means you will be responsible for 50% of payroll taxes and may also be required to pickup an workman's comp policy. The only way this could be remotely a good idea in this economical recession, is if you can tell me that you can sell 25,000 cans each month, no sweat. And I doubt very much a small town will be doing that.
