stop /stɒp/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[stop] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation verb, stopped or (Archaic) stopt; stop·ping; noun –verb (used with object) 1. to cease from, leave off, or discontinue: to stop running. 2. to cause to cease; put an end to: to stop noise in the street. 3. to interrupt, arrest, or check (a course, proceeding, process, etc.): Stop your work just a minute. 4. to cut off, intercept, or withhold: to stop supplies. 5. to restrain, hinder, or prevent (usually fol. by from): I couldn't stop him from going. 6. to prevent from proceeding, acting, operating, continuing, etc.: to stop a speaker; to stop a car. I always say to stop doing something you need to do just that, stop. JS Easier said then done, we can't all be perfect and live by the definition of things, as some people apparently do. If drug problems run rampant through your family, you should never have gotten involved with them. In order to fix the issue, you should seek a doctor's advice. Get some counseling. But like Jack said.....STOP TAKING THEM! Its not easy, but if you put your mind to it....you can do it. I have a vicodin and percoset prescription. Its so easy to get addicted to them. So easy. Yet, I have been taking them for years and have no issues with them. I use them when needed. That vary. I can 3-4 months, using them daily. Then I can go 9 months without using them at all. Why? Because my mind is set that I am not gonna get addicted to it.

With the gene of addiction running DEEP in his family history, he not only feels the urge to do things like that, but part of being an addict is that he CAN'T just stop. He needs treatment, there is no just "stop taking the pills" since not only is it dangerous it's impossible to do alone. Addiction is something you just catch like a cold, it's genetic, it runs in your bloodline. If you're going to get addicted you're going to get addicted. It's not just a mind set like "I'm not going to be an addict" and voila, you never become addicted. Addiction runs deep in my family as well, alcoholism spans on both sides of my family. I know full well I can't take drugs or get into drinking, because I may become helpless with the disease, but I notice the genetic influence in my hobbies and the compulsion that comes with it.

Easier said then done, "not getting involved in them" I started taking them because i was prescribed them. then it just went from need to want, not something i planned, or said hey if i take this pill here I'll be hooked, yay.

I have trouble sleeping, and take them on school nights. Weekends though, nah, I don't need to sleep and be up early, so I'm good with out them. For a while last year, I was stuck on them. The recomended dose was 1 pill, and I needed 4 to even get any results. So, I completely stopped taking them and suffered with little sleep until my mind told itself I didn't need them. It's a mental thing.

Make your dosage lower, make it half of the usage you are taking today, then tomorrow, take the correct dosage.

First stop making excuses for every idea/reason someone gives you. If you've have a problem the first step is listenign to others and getting help, not building a defensive barrier around you.
Second, go to a psychologist and medical doctor and tell them what you're telling us.
Not to be rude, but asking a question like that on these boards is like trying to have a high school class diagnose a disease.

It becomes psychological, you get to the point where you think you can't sleep without them. You've managed for the rest of your life, so manage now.

I never got defensice, and if you've read earlier, when i posted this topic it was late at night, so i could call up and make an appointment for a doctor, so i was just trying to get some feedback.

He has a legit argument against you. I was in year shoes last year, and ridded myself of the problem. I told you how I did it, but apparently some doctor told you otherwise. Tell you what, tell that mother in doctor it is a mental thing. I got over it, you can too. I wish he'd give you extra strong pills and you's sleep fine, only to find out they were placebos. Maybe then you'd get me. But nevermind the guy who knows from experience that it's very mental.
