I glanced at the title of this as I scrolled down and thought it said "about to buy a 3yo daughter."

I would say Boxer, I have Boxer dog, he really good with the kids. My niece who now 3 years old. She LOVE my dog. And they was very bond, she even play pretend to being Vet to my dog. And he (My dog) just lay the floor and let her to play vet with him.
Boxer may be pver hyper, but still great dog for the kids and family.
People who normally scared when see my dog, short after they entry my house, but they realise my dog is very friendly and love to stroke from the visitor. Visitor normally feel scared because my dog would go to them 1st place (make sure I am safe, that was very natural for dog) then start to play with the visitor.
But I not know if boxer dog would a good for your daughter, but I would say yes if you able to trained the boxer in properly way, and best way to buy dog when the dog was puppy. Because that would easy to teach and very easy to bonding as well.

Any breed of dog CAN be good with kids, any breed of dog CAN be bad with kids... It's a matter of how you train it.

dogbreedinfo.com/a-z.htm-all the information you need on any breed Beagles(no such thing as a mini Beagle) are great dogs, very loving but are known wanderers. The dog won't be for your daughter. You're the one that will take care of it obviously. You'll be the one walking it everyday(if you're a responsible dog owner), bathing it, cleaning after it, taking it to the vet, etc. If you want to get her a dog wait until she is old enough to take care of it herself.

I've heard labs are great with children. From experience, I'd say poodle's are also good with children. I have a mixed poodle and it has never once bit an individual. My younger sister was a toddler when we got it, and she was never in danger of being bit.

Jack Russels are very playful, but also only go to average size.

Obedient, great with kids and loyal. Expect to spend around $300-$400 from a breeder.

Smaller dogs are generally good with kids, especially if you have the kid before you have the dog.

When you do get your dog. Make sure you get one from a reputable breeder or rescue one from the pound. Most, not all, backyard breeders just care about making money and don't give puppies proper care. I would just stick with getting the Beagle. You can't go wrong with one. Besides who wouldn't want a puppy like this?
