For the past week, my dog has been sleeping a lot, and hasn't really been her playful self. She also has been sort of favoring one of her legs lately.
Today she was walking up the steps with me, and she missed a step, and she has done this before a few times, and ever since she has been up stairs, she has been asleep on my mom's bed, which has been about 5 hours. We think she has hip dysplasia, which is common in her breed and that medicine can help treat minor to moderate cases, but if it get severe, the dog may need surgery.
We are taking her to the vet, ASAP, possibly the day after Thanksgiving, but, I want to know if there is anyway I can help her feel better. Thanks for any help.

I'm sure you have already done this but the only thing I can think of is to research on the internet about what you can do at home for hip dysplasia for her specific breed.

How old is your dog? I'm not 100% sure but I think leg problems are quite common when a dog gets old.

Well, good luck man. Hopefully everything turns out fine. At the least, be happy its treatable and not fatal.

Update:A little bit ago, she was walking around, and she yelped and started to put absolutely no pressure on it at all. She tried coming up the steps but fell three times, and she is now laying on my mom's bed. We are taking her to the vet tomorrow morning as soon as it opens, or as soon as possible.

She's probably going to need some radiographs to rule out hip dysplasia, as you said, among other things. Hopefully there aren't any ruptured discs or nerve issues. Something like what you're describing shouldn't wait until it's convenient for you though, especially at such a young age. The dog needs to be seen, even if you have to pay an assload to go to an emergency clinic. It's not fair to her to wait and let her suffer. It is your responsibility as a pet owner to provide the care she needs. Nothing ticks me off more than a client who pulls the "we can't afford this" card. Rightfully, if you aren't prepared for emergency(whether it be with a credit card, weathy relatives, ect..), you shouldn't have an animal.

Your dog might have a fracture as well. Seems awfully young to have hip problems. Climbing those steps doesn't help any either. Hopefully it's nothing too serious.

Hope she's okay.
My cousin had to spend $7,000 on his 3 year old dog for 2 bouts of surgery recently. It sucks when the dog is so young and having problems.
Good luck.

One common problem is just a bite. A spider or some other animal may have bitten them, providing they are outside. In some cases, although they are immune from poisons or anything, they may be affected in what they do. My dog recently seemed very lethargic but got over it in a couple of days. So you never know, maybe a spider bit them whether it was inside the house or bit your dog when your dog went outside. Just one possible explanation although by the sounds of it, it may not be the one most fitting to the scenario given.

We got back from the vet a little bit ago, and turns out she has a luxating patella, which means her kneecap doesn't stay in place. They said that she could have been born with it like this, or something may have caused it, but they aren't too sure. they gave her medicine, and they want to see her back in a week. Pretty much, if the medicine doesn't work, they said they will probably have to do surgery, to put the kneecap back in place. But for right now, we are letting her rest, and we are going to just follow doctor's orders and see what happens.

Oh man. I hope she doesn't need surgery. But at least she is very young, so if she does have the surgery, she should recover nicely. Still hoping for the best for you all.

I hate to top this again, but I have another update.
We called the vet today, because she didn't seem to be getting any better, and was walking on three legs almost everytime she stood up. Now, this would only happen when her knee cap would come out of place, and we would have to rub her leg to get it back in so she could walk normal, but 5 mins later, she would hobble again. She won't leave the carpeted area of the living room, because she's afraid to walk on the tile, and anytime we have to take her outside to go to the bathroom, she freaks out, and runs and slides on the tiles, causing her leg to once again get messed up. So we called the vet, and scheduled a surgery for Monday(earliest they could get her in). So Monday morning, my dog is getting surgery on her leg. So please, I ask, just keep her in your prayers(or in your thoughts if you don't pray).
