Well, I got a certified letter in the mail yesterday from the local police department "congradulating" me on being selected for jury duty. I have to fill out the form and have it back by the 28th of this month. I could be called upon to serve within the first six months of 08. There were 200 people selected and I happened to be one of the lucky a**holes. We will be split into 3 groups and each group is responsible for 2 months of duty. They will select us randomly for cases within our 2 months. I think we only have to do one case, but who knows. Has anyone here ever had to do it? You are able to be selected if you are over 18 and not a damn felon.........if I had only commited a crime I wouldn't have to do it. The plus side is that you get paid for the duty plus you get paid by your employer for a days work. Anyone got any experience? The only word I will know during this time is GUILTY!! I wish I could take a radio and play AMW's old theme when they ask us for the verdict.

I also got a letter in the mail shortly after turning 18, but they never called me to serve...It's no big deal really and even if you do get called, just say something obnoxious or racist when they're interviewing you like Larry David does in Curb Your Enthusiasm and they'll prolly dismiss you...

my dad got called and recently got the trial over with. he went in one day, said the trial was postponed until dec. 3 (monday) and then it lasted 2 hours. they said for him to expect to miss 10 straight business days of work, so he booked them off. but then the trial only last a few hours like i said, so. it was good for him. because here you dont get paid for doing it.

I served jury duty once, let me tell you what... you don't want to be an alternate, it ing sucks. If they want to make you an alternate, say no (if you have a choice..). The deal with that is that you have to sit through the whole trial (which was like two or three days or something) and then you go home without making a decision. It is very ungratifying. I had to look up the verdict online. Other than that, the whole process is actually kind of interesting. They don't pay you very much at all, however. I probably broke even after gas and buying lunch every day. The choosing part sucks the most, however, because you go and sit in a room and wait literally all day long for your name to be called.

Here you have to be registered to vote to be selected. Which is why I'm going to register before the Presidential election and unregister right after, my mom does it every time. Except she got the letter for it the other day under her former married name which she doesn't use anymore due to divorce. Screwed up city records.

Honestly...depending on the case, you probably won't get picked. I went and look similar to you, tattoos, crew cut, plus I have my ears gauged and septum pierced. The first day I was passed over for everything. The second day I was on a case, but once I was called for the interview in the juror's seat, I only answered one question before the defendant's lawyer asked I be dismissed. Wear short sleeves and you'll be fine.

I look like a felon I think. don't count on it. i thought the exact same thing when i had to go in & they actually picked me for a death penalty murder case. i was shocked, i've got a lot of tats like you, so i wore a botton up short sleeve shirt to make sure they saw what a punk i looked like, but they still picked me. it was actually kinda cool because it was a kinda big case for this area. it was all good until deliberations....you never understand how much you can totally ing hate 11 strangers until you're locked in a room with them and can't go home until you all agree. the trial was 2 weeks so i had been with these people all that time since we had to eat lunch & take breaks together & stuff, so we were all friendly enough with eachother before that....i'm not a violent person, but it took every ounce of restraint i could muster to not punch a 55 year old guy in the head. he was the biggest a**hole i have ever come in contact with.
